former cop stabbed

help me understand something..

1) i know "general population"

2) i am familiar with "solitary confinement"..

3) i also "heard of" ..."protective custody"..

so my question, are all 3 different forms of prison time, or are numbers 2 and 3 the same..?????

cuz i thouhgt that some prisoners say like pedifiles and cops go into.."protective custody"..?????
They are different. 1st the are very, very few to no solitary confinement places. Segregation, is a better term. no physical contact, but not confined with no other form of contact. One could be in "protective custody" and still have and generally do, contact with the other P.C. cases. As for skinners, diaper snipers & sand box commandos don't buy into the B.S. you are led to believe about all the crap they have to put up with once in lockdown. Remember we pay Prison Guards, ops "correctional officers" to protect ALL I/M's, and they WILL be held responsible if they fail to do so. As will the institution. If you don't think an institution/ management/ supervisors, will not throw a guard under the bus to cover their tail, you need to step away from the bar ;)

We say this about lots of other people with no sympathy, why do we suddenly discover it for this murderer?
Did you not read my entire post? It would seem that you have made up your mind, there is no possibility that you are anything but 100% correct, riotous, with an axe to grind.
Have a very good day. God Bless. :)

I’d be surprised if it wasn’t a contributing factor, but…I wouldn’t assume it was the sole reason, either.

No matter, though—Chauvin’s likely going to spend the next 15 years or so in solitary…and that’s been shown to be…difficult, from a mental health standpoint.

I still don’t feel sorry for him.

They call it single cell assignment and that doesn’t happen for long periods outside the ADX. And the new illustrious Director of the BOP did away with Special Management Units so you will see more homicides within USP’s .

This didn’t happen because he was a cop. BOP has a ton of former LE. From local to state to Federal. This more than likely happened by opportunity as I mentioned earlier someone wanted to earn their place in a group and either picked him or was told hit that guy. His high profile often is what makes them a target.

They will place him and the attacker in SHU do their investigation and they will be separates now. Most cases they will ship one to another institution that he can walk the yard in general population.

Keeping track of all the Sepratees and NOW (Not out with) and single cell only in SHU was a PITA. Made running Reca challenge some days!

TMFA, dude.

I do not know anything about Derek Chauvin and I don't have an opinion one way or the other.

That said, shouldn't it be automatic common practice that a former police officer especially one THIS notorious n prison goes to Admin Seg?

I mean, if they're going to throw him into Gen Pop they might as well kill him themselves

I also personally know two different guys that straight up murdered people and did less than 12 years.
A guy who I used to work with was convicted of murder in California and did 9 years.

I have no idea of the circumstances. I didn't ask. It was none of my business.

I do know that the guy was a Master Machinist he knew more about the trade than the guy running the shop we were working in.

Whenever anybody, including the boss, had a question about how to do something they went to Dennis.

They treated him like tihs and paid him peanuts. He made nine bucks an hour and he had to put up with it because he was on Parole.

I went to church with another guy who was convicted in Colorado and did seven.

The way the justice system is set up in Colorado it is almost impossible for a parolee to complete his parole and get off parole with no violations. This guy was the only person I ever saw do it.

Not just Colorado, many, but not all, state are the same. Probation/parole is not supposed to be easy. They haven't served their time, just given a chance to be on the outside early BUT walk the straight and narrow. Many won't do it; NOT can't do it.

A: nobody ever said murders had to be stupid. (some of the nicest and cleverest people you ever want to meet are I/Ms, until you say no)
B: nine bucks an hour is a lot better than zero bucks and hour and looking at the bottom side of daisies.
C: 25 years as a guard has left me jaded. I'll save my sympathy for the real victims.

Yeah, but unless we know the circumstances it's impossible to judge. For me anyway. Now both of the guys I was referring to are actually guilty of the murders they were convicted of and one of those guys is an irredeemable piece of crap, but plenty of people convicted of murder are not actually bad people and were justified, even if the courts or juries said otherwise.

I can only speak in the Feds as I retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The last decade in a half they have made several drop out yards. These are for inmates with sex offender convictions, inmates that dropped out of gangs, inmates that cooperated or testified some LE and now transgender inmates.

The idea is so those inmate scan live in GP and actually walk a compound. It really does cost a ton of money keeping inmates locked up and the there is an increase I. Suicides which while some might not care they move a lot of earth investigating those things and will fry staff for any missed rounds or etc.

When I hired in in 2000 the only sex offender in the Feds was a random Native American that did something on the Rez Fast forward to 2015 they needed a 3rd High Security institution (USP in BOP) to go with all the Low and Mediums (FCI) that had medium and low inmates with sex offense’s. This was in large part to the explosion of internet sex crimes that weren’t a thing in the late 1990’s.

It’s a mess now and I am glad I am retired

I always told new guys DO YOUR ROUNDS if for no other reason than cya. I don't remember a Suicide where a guard didn't take the fall.

AMEN! In fact I probably stayed 5 years too long.

When I read this, I can see in my mind's eye a man as plain as if he was standing beside me right now, hear his voice, can't remember his name though. (have trouble remembering names just ask the grandchildren ) He was the only one that didn't have an excuse or a justification. All he ever said was shouldn't have done it and would do it again. Knowing the circumstances of his crime, JMHO he should have been given a case of beer a carton of cigarettes and sent on his way.

just an update, he was stabbed 22 times, by a former FBI informant that was also in the Mexican Mafia prison gang.

I think the department of corrections has some culpability.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons will have an Office of Internal Affairs (OIA) investigation which is an outside institution and usually some regional office from the institution like they do on every assault. It sounds like there was no fault of staff as they were there and used chemical munitions within a reasonable time.

(Up until 2012 line staff weren’t even issued OC spray and then just at high security USP’s standard issue of OC to all line staff at Mediums and lows didn’t happen until around 2015)

I have seen several serious attacks where the US Attorney doesn’t charge the inmates. This case boiled down to the high profile case and the severity of the injuries.

What a lot of the public overlooks Just because you send murderer , rapist, drug dealer or thief to prison doesn’t mean they stop murdering, raping, dealing or stealing. They just do it to the more weaker ones in prison!
