While I was cleaning the gun for the first time I noticed these marks on the barrel.

looks normal.....the former owner may not have given it enough lube however.

i lube the barrel like you see where it says 45 auto.?? the hood area, all around and under that, and those "cut outs" all around those, as well as inside the slide to the corresponding areas.

that's just me though. others may disagree.

you just do not want "galling", deep scratches basically speaking

Not abnormal for a tight fitting pistol like the Garrison (or any 1911) which has not been routinely lubed. Those scuffed areas deserve a light coating of grease after every cleaning and lube. The SA owners manual specifies the areas that should be lubed.

Thank you all for responding. While I'm waiting for the new mags I'll clean and inspect the gun. Already bought better quality ammo.

Follow-up: After cleaning and new mag, I had 3 jams in the first 50 rounds (Federal ammo).
Then I had 0 jams in the 2nd 50 rounds (Selliers and Bellot).

There is a plethora of discussion here about 1911s and their inherent finicky-ness.

The long and short of it is that these are not high end custom 1911s and won't run like them without a little TLC. And they can be particular about ammo.

Stick with the S&B ammo. I have never had any trouble with that ammo

Could the over all lengths be slightly different causing the issues? Right now I've got 45acp Federal, Fiocchi and American Eagle which have all been good to go. So far I haven't found anything that my Garrison pistol won't reliably chamber.

Manufacturers often do not put the care and precision into cheaper "range ammo" as with their premium ammo. I have had problems with Winchester white box ammo not running in my Sig P series and Colt Gold Cup but worked fine in a Government model. Thus far everything runs in my Sig STX

Looks fine to me, I don’t see any strange markings, normal
