I'm a little different than most people at the range.

I train for real life scenarios.

That means I don't shoot once, check the wind, wait 5 seconds, and shoot a second time.

If you are training/shooting for a real life scenario that's a very acceptable pattern.
some of us like me, are not allowed to train like that at our ranges or clubs.

no rapid firing, no drawing from our holsters

its a safety issue, should the rounds be duds or squibbs, or should the gun owner shoot himself in the leg or foot.

if one has his or her own private range in the backyard, then have at it, but not at many clubs/ranges elsewhere's.

if you belong to a range that allows that..??

you are a lucky gun owner

Point taken on the draw aspect but I've never had a range tell me how fast I can pull the trigger.

Maybe I've been fortunate.

That being said you may have missed my overall point, or for the record I may not have been clear. 🤭

When I go to the range my mindset is getting the rounds down range as efficiently and quickly as reasonably possible without worrying about some grouping that will impress my friends.

Of course, its different if I'm trying to zero a weapon.

But other than that I concentrate on center mass, head shots and combinations of the two. Usually in 3, 4 or 5 round burst regardless of magazine capacity.

Yea, this new range is very similar to what your saying, now my outdoor club, no RO, so you can train anyway you like as long as you follow the rules that’s posted

Aww, you really don't need much help. Those targets look fine, nice work. Did you really shoot that with a G19? Just kidding. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for your indulgence,

no, i did not miss what you said, and for you to not have been told not to rapid fire, or draw from a holster maybe you are fortunate, or the range(s) you go to are not that up on safety..??

i think we ALL try to get our shots down range, like you

however, have you not seen bullet holes in the side walls, or the ceilings..??

those are from errant shots by most likely newbies, or egomaniac guys showing off to thier buddies or girlfriends...

in other words, careless, ignorant shooters

head shots are ok, but the head can move faster than center mass

my study of shooting is always for center mass, where most likely, i will hit that target all the times, especially (i would hope) under duress conditions..??

the few times i was able to enter a range with no RSO, was the public range, and start shooting

why..??

1) they know me very well

2) i have proven my skills

3) but i still adhere to no rapid shooting or holster drawing

my private gun club..??

i am usually there at like 6-6:30 am, no RSO's ever (we are our own RSO), and i still adhere to THIER rules of no rapid firing, and NO holster drawings..

cameras at both locations record everything, so no need for me to get hung out to dry if i screw up.

so you maybe you are fortunate where you go..its just not like that every where

I would counter with, in my range training, I prefer to get my rounds down range as “efficiently and quickly” as reasonably possible WHILE keeping them grouped very well, or to the best of my ability. I much prefer my quickest shots all hit within the 8 ring or better (and some still don’t) and not scattered to all corners of my 2 x 3 target, some of which might then be completely off the silhouette diagram, meaning I missed the threat completely.

And I do usually finish up one of my drills with, at 3 yds, 5 strings of 2 to the chest, 1 to the head, as quick as possible. But then I still prefer to keep my shots as accurate as possible, which sometimes results in very nice groups…not 1.5”, but not 10” either.

And of course to practice my basic fundamentals, such as trigger control, holding sight alignment, recoil recovery, avoiding flinching (damn those .357 Sigs!) etc., there are then my slow fire strings which should be grouped even better!

But the most positive point of all is that at least you’re training, regardless of how YOU choose to do it, which is way more than many, many, many people carrying guns daily bother with.
