Direct slide mounting without plates is the only way to run a Red Dot.

That said if you have a non MOS slide milled you might see a unique malfunction. Dave Spaulding mentioned it in his class and sure enough a few of them happened with non MOS that were aftermarket milled. The optic is a little farther forward than an MOS version and spent brass would get trapped backward in the ejection port after bouncing off the optic. This keeping the slide opened the length of the brass.

Wasn’t a chronic issue but happened enough Dave mentioned it and we saw it!

It’s not the only way. It’s probably the best way, but until they make every red dot in configurations to fit any gun or they standardize the footprint, plates are gonna be a thing. Springfield ( in some cases) forces you to use a piece of crap optic unless you get an aftermarket plate. Holosun is doing a pretty good job of trying to keep up with market demands, but as an example, if you want a Holosun 507c on your VP9 you’re gonna need a plate.
 
So you guys have had good experiences with the Glock store? I was looking at some stuff on their website but I saw a lot of bad reviews online for them.

shipping delays??

during covid, i was lucky to get my parts 3 weeks after i ordered them, due to them not having a full crew....or out of stock items..that was a given during covid.

but otherwise, i look up a part that i want, order it, then they ship per the time table, due to the backlog of orders.

FN has probably the best way with the new 509 MRD LE. LAPD specs they can mount most all duty rated optics directly to the slide where Sig only a couple everything else has to have an internet. FN has had this for 3 ish years since LAPD adopted it in 2022

In many many Range Master, Spaulding, Hearns and just running classes myself every person that had issues with optics coming off were running them on plates or the plate became loose effecting their zero. Of the maybe one person with direct mounts that had an issue it was because they admitted they used no loctite or torque it to specs. IE Man read the owners manual!

The Eschelon will mount many different optics as well.

I get that but it as good as it might be hasn’t been through the tests the FN has. Just familiar with Gb as I knew an FN Engineer and he talked about their direct mount with duty grad RDS a few years ago. Then watching what FN did with the testing for LAPD was pretty impressive

I feel pretty happy with the VP9 OR models. They take my favorite optics, which are Holosuns, so I’m happy.

Frankly I need to lay off the handgun binge I’ve been on lately. Couple shotguns I need to focus on. I completely blame F’in @SimonRL. I’ve blown enough money to buy a room full of shotguns because of him. My wife keeps trying to talk me into a Dallas vacation so she can slap the shite out of him. 🤣
