Going back to the beginning

Warrior9(Ret)

The first 9mm pistol I ever fired was a Browning Hi-Power. I was 12 years ago. That was back in 1973. I also fired my first M1911A1 that day. All of this was after I received a through block of instructions from uncle who was a Korean War Veteran. He brought them and other “War Trophies” back from the War with him.
I’m now find myself wanting to going back to those two pistols. I carried and used a M1911A1 during my 28 years in the US Army (1979-2008).
Before I hit the Big 65 I plan to have both. Both will be from the Great folks at Springfield Armory. A SA-35, Mil-Spec 1911, extra mags, and a crap load of ammo.

You will definitely like the Mil Spec 1911, I really like mine a lot, I picked up the stainless version, I recently sold my SA-35, just didn’t care for it, but it was a good gun.

Going back to the “Steel and Wood” days. My first duty station was Berlin. We still had a rack of M-14’s in our armsroom. I was luckily enough to be pick as a Designated Marksman so I went to Bad Tolz, Germany to get trained up on it by some very experienced SF NCO’s.
The M1A will be my next quest after I get the pistols.🪖🇺🇸

The SA-35 is a nice pistol. I think you'll like it. I sure like mine. A 9mm was the first pistol for me to shoot. It was a Walther P-38 left to me by my grandfather who got it from one of his cousins that was in the 82nd Airborne WW II. I first shot it when I was 10 yrs. old some 57 years ago. My grandson replaced a broken firing pin a short time ago and it will be his soon.

I am right behind you in age and service time. Those two models will be the last I’ll give up, with the poss exception of my getting a S&W EZ for old-age purposes…..

I have the parkerized. Thought about stainless but dark and dull is more my speed.
I’m the same. We I was a young Buck Sergeant I convinced my Company Commander that we needed to get the M1911A1’s we had in our Armsroom serviced by the Small Arms repair shop. This was in Germany and all the Gunsmiths were German GS workers.
When we took them to shop I included 2 bottles of Jack Daniels and 2 cartons of Cigarettes.
Two months later we picked them up. All 14 were completely rebuilt to a very high standard. All were also re-parkerized to boot. They shot Fantastic!
