Good article on headspace.....

Always a good idea to check the headspace on any firearm you build or swap barrels/bolt head. While a set of go/no go gauges can be a bit pricy. There's a cheap option. Take an empty brass that's been resized and a primer in place. take a dowl that will fit in the barrel and glue the case to the end. Now put the dowl, (use wood) and put it in the barrel from the chamber side until the case is all the way in the chamber. Now close the bolt. Check for any movement of the dowl. Each round has a different no go. So if you have a lot of play, take it to a gunsmith. With gauges costing $30-$40 a set, this method will save you a bit.

When you have mutli cartridges that can use the same gauge like the 308, I get a 3 for. A gunsmith said just buy the go gauge and put a piece of duct tape on the case head for a no go. I just get the no go, less sticky!

I save all kinds of money . :) I buy stock firearms from a dealer and use factory ammo. :D;)

This is a useful thread for those who do build their own rifles and could save a lot of headache.
