Gun Range Customers Defend Officer: Did You See This?

In a serious lapse of judgement, an individual decided to go through items that didn't belong to him at a gun range. While demonstrating a complete lack of foresight, the individual then attacked the first responding officer with a screwdriver. The man was promptly shot by the backup officer and three range customers. Did any of you see this on any mainstream news station? I apologize for having to link to local Las Vegas news story, but I couldn't find it on any larger news outlets. A Google search of "gun range customers defend officer Nevada" just provides links to gun ranges and stories about background checks.

Something worrying about this, why did they follow him outside? In the UK we have plane cloves officers, and they often stage things so someone will react to and get arrested. It's the Devil who Temps you, I'm not surprised special forces and the Army are on the streets.

I doubt the citizens involved were in any way affiliated with law enforcement. It is not uncommon for 911 callers to keep an eye on suspects in order to provide responding officers with a detailed description and direction of travel. It appears that the armed civilians kept their distance, and only used force when they believed the female officer was in danger.

While American law does not discourage such behavior by armed citizens, the American media will do everything possible to side with the criminal. You can tell this by the fact that the headline states that the suspect "allegedly" attacked the officer with a screwdriver. The officer was hospitalized, the incident was captured on body-camera footage, and there were multiple witnesses. Only the U.S. media would consider this an "alleged" attack in the face of overwhelming evidence proving that the event happened just as officers and witnesses described.

The word “alleged” is used by the media to mitigate liability, if a reporter is doing a story on something that he/she didn’t witness the term alleged puts them in a neutral position so they are not seen as biased one way or another.

It acts like a disclaimer to avoid defamation of character most likely! Headlines will state that even after conformation(s). If a trial happens and only after the verdict then it would read guilty or innocent.

Wow, I'm local, and I haven't heard this story. But then again, I'm not on social media, and don't watch broadcast TV.

Range 702 is kinda a high priced touristy range imo. I've not gone there in years.

It seemed to fade from the local media pretty fast, and I don't think national media carried it at all. I am honestly curious as to why it was not covered. With most police shootings these days, someone shows up to protest. I live in a fairly conservative area, but we have seen "demonstrators" from out of town show up as a result of police shootings in the past.

I was expecting either a, "He was mentally-ill and needed treatment", or a "It was only a screwdriver" argument from the typical groups that protest virtually all police shootings. I don't know if this was ignored because it made armed civilians look good, because the demonstrators/rioters are done now that Trump's out of office, or if the media has grown tired of criticizing the cops.

You should've seen how quickly the Vegas concert shooting faded from local media.

I am local and heard about this shortly after it happened. A couple of the guys that did the shooting were actually part of the range staff after they escorted him out of the building and were waiting for the police to show up. The guy walked into a classroom while the class was on break. The instructors were in the room having a discussion and not very aware of their surroundings. The guy the bag belonged to caught him going through his bag. I received this information from someone that is in management of the contract instructors involved.

The D.A. is considering charges against the civilian shooters. I don't see it happening because they shot fewer rounds combined than the partner that was protecting his partner.
