Hellcat pro red dot

All,

I’m new here but I’ve had several Springfield Armory guns for the past 40 years. I decide to pick up the hellcat pro. I really like the feel and weight of the gun however the red dot that it comes with. Seems like it’s absolute garbage compared to other red dots that I’ve used has anyone else had this experience? It’s the Crimson trace MDA that came with the gun.

Welcome to the forum from South Texas. For me Trijicon dots were the cats meow. Now that I have tried others, Holosun and Sig for example are as good or better mainly because of features like shake-a-wake and sleep time adjustments. Other forum members have much more experience than I am sure they will help you out.

Crimson Trace is one of the lowest-cost dot manufacturers out there. You see a lot of their stuff on "packages" rather than optics sold as-is. You get what you pay for I guess. On a tangent, the Crimson Trace dot that was included on an AR I bought several years ago continues to be one of my favorites (compared to Holosun, Vortex and Burress units I have). Go figure.

Bought my Hellcat about a year after its release. Springfield recommended 3 optics available at the time. I chose the Shield RMSc and it turned out to be problem free for me. Only caveat for me is when changing the battery, a re-zero is usually necessary as the optic must be removed for the battery replacement. The upside is rugged metal frame, full co-witness of the standard irons, the auto brightness, good battery life with auto sleep when no motion is detected, wakes when moved,. and direct no plate mount. There are many options nowadays for direct RMSc mounts so shop around for the one that works best for you. I have a Romeo X Compact, also direct no plate RMSc mount, on another EDC and that battery can be replaced without removing the optic so no re-zeroing. Both of these optics have worked well for me and will remain on my pistols. YMMV.

To put a positive spin on bottom-mount battery access, it forces you to go to the range for another session (to zero)...who thinks that is bad? I know that's a stretch, but I'm sticking to it.

I called Crimson trace yesterday and it was hot on hold for 30 minutes and put my name in the queue to call back and they haven’t done it yet. I think I’m going with the Holosun 407K guys.

I've go nuthin' to say that's good about CT optics. I had two fail on me in normal service and I wasn't sorry that they did.

I have the Holosun HE-507K-GR X2 on my Echelon and an ADE RD3-021-PRO on my Hellcat RDP. Both optics have served me well, they have the options I wanted and I don't have to remove the optic to change a battery.

I’m not a big optic person yet but do have a holosun 407C with on my M&P 10MM. Personally I like it but not the standard baseplate or screws that come with it.

mine came with a viridian green dot
optic
its pretty nice
only factor for me is the grip is just a tad to small around..but other than that i like it
I have more than a few Viridian greendots in the RMSc footprint and the RMR footprint. I think they are very good quality for their price and the quality of the actual dot is very crisp. The Defender CCW is also particularly good - especially if you get the new version that shuts off after 10 minutes of no use rather than 14 hours for Version 1. The new C+H red dot with RMSC footprint is likewise pretty good. And the Meprolight series of enclosed and open emitter red dots are also very good and are supposed to be coming out with green dots soon.
