hellcat users/owners

all info pertaining to this gun is wanted. i don't own 1, but do know 1 person that carries this gun. what ammo are you using and what kind of recoil does it exhibit for a subcomp? the person who carries this gun uses it as is w/ no mods or optics. holster types are also useful.

147 gr Federal HST....

Mcarbo trigger, and striker parts, over the plastic

shoots well, we are limited here to 10 round mags, so gripping the gun with a 10 round mag, i appreciate the "pinky grip" extension. 15 round standard mags are GREAT for gripping.

recoil is a wee bit more than say a full sized Glock 17, but i can get on target quickly enough

this target is older, and as you can see, after the trigger job.

i like the gun, may still get a Sig P365, but then, i also have a G-30 as another ccw.

Hellcat OSP with Shield RMSc. Needed more grip length for my XL hands and added several 15 round mags. Other than that, bone stock. The more I shoot it, the better it gets. Shot 115 grain Fiocchi FMJ for range and Hornady Critical Defense for carry until the Covid ammo shortage period. I couldn't find the Fiocchi in 115 anywhere but stumbled upon Fiocchi 124 FMJ which my Hellcat, as well as my Shield 9, seemed to like better and is now my range ammo. Did some gel testing on the Critical Defense carry ammo and found a 30% failure to expend with overpenetration, probably due to shorter barrels. On the advice of a retired LEO friend, I tried Black Hills Honey Badger Subsonic 125 grain FTM (1250 fps) and found it to be within the FBI specs with no overpenetration, even through 4 layers of heavy denim. It's now my carry ammo in my Hellcat and Shield 9 as well as my Sig P365 380 (60 grain, 1150 fps). No issues of any kind so far with these standard pressure ammos and less recoil. I've recently read some positive reviews on Federal HST Micro ammo for carry and want to try that as well. My #! goal with carry ammo is avoiding ovderpenetration while still being within FBI specs and able to stop the threat. YMMV.

I have 3 Hellcats (non OSP, RDP & XL), and 3 P365 (p365, XL & XMacro). Comparing the non OSP to the P365 (3.1” barrels), both were pretty snappy but that’s pretty common with these small micro compacts. The Hellcat allowed me to pick up sights faster due to U notch rear and yellow front tritium, allowing for quicker 2nd shots on target (at least in my case). When I did carry it (now carry S&W Shield Plus 4” PC w/CT optic), I used Hornady’s 124 gr Critical Duty ammo and carried it in a Crossbreed Reckoning holster.

Like the good BET7, I have all of the Hellcats (except that new Comp) and all of the 365s. Usually when asked I compare these two as they are very close in all aspects. I know this is an SA forum but honestly, in all comparable sizes, the Hellcats are quite a bit 'snappier' than the Sigs... That said, I keep a Hellcat Pro in my CCW rotation. I like the ergonomics a lot and even though I really love the X Macro, I like the multiple finger grooves on the Pro more than the one groove on the X Macro, it just fits my hand perfectly. I run optics on all of my CCW weapons, on these sometimes they come with a Shield or a CT, I have some Holosuns that I toss into the rotation, all have worked fine with these guns and all carry perfectly.
I have belly bands for these, several of the Alien gear rigs, Desantis and Crucial holsters. the Hellcats work great in everything I have tried, but Belly bands suck because they make sweat, oh and the OG Alien rigs did not make Optic cuts.
I carry 147gr XTP and or 124 gr XTP usually, sometimes 100gr FTX, and though I have drilled with all of these just to 'make sure', these are not my range rounds under normal conditions, cause I have not won the lotto.

I have owned Hellcat, Sig 365 and Hellcat Pro.
Various ammo used. I have quite a bit of Winchester Active Duty M1152 9mm M1152 Ammo 115 Grain.
Hellcat was snappier especially with this ammo, which is to be expected.
IMO, the Hellcat Pro is a better balance, not as snappy.
No longer own the Hellcat just the Hellcat Pro.

Hellcat Pro is my EDC, no optics I love the sights on the gun. I carried a 365XL prior but for some reason the HCP just feels better in my hand. Only thing I added was a Hogue grip sleeve the extra palm swell it provides makes it fit my hand better.

Been carrying the Hellcat OSP with a Shield SRSc mounted and sighted in at 10 yrds, with the dot sitting right on top of my front buis. I typically carry 124gr Sig V-Crown when out and about. I practice with 124gr Berry's Rnd nose at about 960fps at the muzzle. Everything I mentioned may not be the best for everyone, but for me everything I've mentioned is very consistent and worthwhile.

I reload all my practice stuff, never use any range pick up brass for this routine. I will sometimes use pick-ups for our play-around rounds, but I'm very selective to those that I've watched being left as once fired or assured they were. I keep detailed records of number of times all brass is fired, very rarely having a need to trim to length and typically dump them after about 6-8 reloads depending on how they measure and look, and of course the brand.

The recoil isn't bad, but the little gun is pretty snappy. Limp wristing will make it hurt a little sometimes, so don't do it. You might feel it in practice, but you won't in a gun fight, so no worry. I have several choices for EDC, but the Hellcat OSP, RDS, in an OWB "Blackhills Leather" forward cant has been my 'WITHOUT QUESTION' go-to since the day I ran the 350th round through it with nary an issue.

Every range day I'll run whatever mag I've been using for EDC (the Sig V-Crown's), since the last range day, just to refresh the carry ammo, rotate the mag, and make certain nothing has changed. Hope this helps!

I much prefer the 10 rnd with the pinky ext over all other choices. Fits my smaller hands perfectly. I can have someone pick up two 10 shot targets from 10 yrds or basically any distance, one using the 10rnd mag/pnky ext, the other using any other mag/ext combo, and I'll tell you which one I shot with which combination. That's just how much better it works for me.

My thinking is simple ... if I can shoot that much better with the 10 rnd mag than all others, my chances of coming out on top are far better than to use any other combo. If I've not done what needs to be done in 10 rnds, it's not like even another 2-3 or 5 rnds is going to make the difference. After the 10th rnd, if the bad guy is still slinging lead in my direction, my plan will be to make haste in a hurry. And I never learned to shoot over my shoulder at a full run!!!!!
