The latest forecast is for it decrease in strength before hitting Florida.

As of 11:55AM 10/7/2023-
Milton is likely to become a category 5 hurricane later today
with light shear and very warm waters in its path. By tomorrow,
its intensity should be dictated by any eyewall replacement
cycles, which will likely cause the system to gradually weaken
but grow larger. After 36 h, Milton is expected to encounter a
much less favorable environment with strong shear and dry air
entrainment. Therefore, some weakening is anticipated before the
hurricane reaches the Florida Gulf coast.

The map here shows a forecast cat 3 at landfall.

I hope it weakens, but a cat 3 storm is still dangerous. The biggest threat to life in the coastal areas is the flooding from the storm surge. How bad that becomes will depend on where the eye makes landfall. If it remains a cat 5 at landfall the wind damage will also be much worse, I am hoping for a cold front to settle it down some.

I'd agree KF, but the tin-hatters have been right an awful lot the last few years about this stuff. Now all I know is that I don't know much.
well a few posts ago I mentioned this:

"Would really be terrible if there was a way to create, stand up, tear down or steer those storms wouldn't it? Tell me you don't want the details." I've posted some interesting items here - come to your own conclusions and forget the tinfoil hat stuff:

US20030085296A1 - Hurricane and tornado control device https://zerogeoengineering.com/2017/hurricane-tornado-control-device/
US3056556A - Method of artificially influencing the weather https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/patent/US-3056556-A#section=CPC
US8262314 - Method for decreasing the intensity and frequency of tropical storms or hurricanes
US20130038063 - Apparatus and method for inhibiting the formation of tropical cyclones
US20130175352 - Method to influence the direction of travel of hurricanes
US20200187430 – Helical artificial generator of tornado, hurricane, yellow dust, and typhoon
US20200315104 - Propagating sound through bodies of water, to generate and direct wind, for the purpose of moderating and affecting weather patterns

So presented without further comment - do your own research, I've given a few links. These are patent office references btw. Not all were granted.
