Heritage new lever gun

I'll hafta have one in my hands, before I know for sure, but looks like I'd buy the 16" compact. The local F&H has a mares leg I've been looking at, been marking it down. They've had it a long time.

What caliber is that mares leg
I was back at F & H this afternoon, the Henry mares leg was boxed up in the glass case, with no price on it. I asked bout it was told they couldn't sell it. It is 14" bbl chambered for 2 1/2 .410 shells. They sold it doing paperwork they have it listed as a handgun, the feds called it a shotgun. The 14" barrel makes it illegal. They said they will send it to another state. This is something new, they sold them in the past with no problems.

That exactly what I was thinking I think it would be a cold in hell if they approve that for California too bad I like it

yotehtr, I believe the 410 Henry is called the Axe (not the Mares Leg). The Henry Mares Leg comes in the following calibers: 22lr; 22Mag; 357 Mag/38 Spl; 44mag/44 spl and 45 Colt (which I just bought). I don't know where you live, but both the Mares Leg and Axe are legal to sell here in Pa. (at least currently). The Axe doesn't have a stock allowing firing from the shoulder, so by ATF definition, it isn't really a Shotgun but considered a non NFA weapon (much like Mossberg's Shockwave and Remington's Tac14, which are still legal to purchase in most states). Below are links to Henry's Axe and Mares Leg from their website catalog:

I haven't yet had it to the range as I just picked it up a little while ago Jav. I agree it looks fun to shoot and saw some video reviews that reinforced that notion. Growing up watching Steve McQueen in "Wanted Dead or Alive", I always thought his Mares Leg was cool (supposedly, his was chambered in 44-40), and I wanted one that was a period caliber in use at that time (hence the 45 Colt model). So when they started making them for sale, I knew I'd have to eventually get one. ;)
