Holosun SCS issues with screws?

Just wondering if anyone has had or may have heard of issues with the screws shearing off sending the unit flying while shooting and leaving the bottom threads of the screw in the slide. Bought mine direct mount for my VP9 Amazon reviews had some 1 stars but would appreciate any and all input before I install it.

If the screws were over torqued then this can definitely cause a failure withyhe fasteners. Was the sight installed with a torque driver to proper manufacturer specs or were they hand tightened without any measure of knowing the force applied?

I'm not passing blame I am just curious.

I bought my VP9SK with the SCS already on it. I haven’t touched it. Probably 800 rounds or more through it. No issues. It’s my favorite Holosun.

That Sucks! I hope you can get those screws out without damaging the slide.

I had Holosun’s on 4 MOS Glocks and one I had milled (G32.4) for one. I also have a Holoson on my Hellcat OSP. I have never had an issue with any of them. Still have one on my G23.5 as well, only MOS Glock I still have. I also have a Holoson still in the box for my Emissary - because I seem to do pretty good with the irons 😀.

Only issue I had out of all of those is that I had to contact Holosun to get the proper length screws to put the optic on the Hellcat, but before I got theirs, I found some elsewhere.

If the person reporting sheared off inserted screws that were too long (because that’s what was in the box), that could likely cause the issue.

Find somewhere you can verify screw length(s) needed to put your model of Holosun on your model of gun. If you torque to specs, you’ll have no issues with those screws.

Hi,

My limited experience: I have one optics pistol with a Holosun 507. I used C&H parts (plate, screws, mounting kit, etc.) to install. You might try their screws (good hard steel) and mounting/maintenance kit (thread lock, markers, torque driver) and follow instructions. My optic is really solid.

Screw kit example (says 'SCS' in description, check screw sizes):

Thank you for your indulgence,

That is awesome, ordering them now and feel a lot better about the install, thanks for this!

That I can see happening, lots of people think they’re Marisa Tomei and can torture to exact NASA specs 😂😂

Thank you. I’ve been looking for a maintenance kit for Red Dot Optics.

Personally I wouldn't use any type of thread lock unless it was on the screws from the factory. Liquid type will mess with the torque specs, in other words you'll torque too much.
I am curious how or why you think liquid thread lock affects(?) the torque of a bolt/screw?

The only thing liquid thread lock effects(?) is unscrewing the bolt/screw out (it's purpose in life) and for some "colors" like red and the size of the bolt/screw, heating up the bolt/screw or the piece the bolt/screw is in will be needed to "loosen" the thread lock.

This is a well known issue with the SCS, particularly with the V1 PDP. You can buy replacement screws from Battlewerx.com.

Thread locker does affect torque ratings. It acts like a lubricant and you should lower the torque settings by a couple of pounds. Holosun recommends you use blue loctite

on my viridain optic
i called them as i was missing a screw and he sent me several little packs with new screws
they are snugged and have a built in bit of thread grabber,
never thought about one leaving the game in mid cycle, that would be an eye open

Much appreciated!

I have never used any blue loctite on my Holosun 508t. I have it on a XDM-Elite 3.8" 10mm. Not once have my screws loosen or broke.
Yes loctite on screws acts as a lubricant and your torque specs will be more than they should be. More than one optic manufacturer has stated their torque specs are for dry fasteners, therefore they should be dry.

The ones that came with the unit had a smidgen of blue loctite on the bottom 1/3 of the threading. Dyu recommend I do the same, let the new screws dry and then install to specs? 15lb torque

I’ve used a toothpick and my digital calipers to measure the depth of a screw hole before. Seems to work for me 👍
I also use double sided tape to hold the screws while I apply the thread lock to them.
Stick one side to a ruler then the screws head first to the other side. I let them dry like that.
