Home Defense!

Thank you for posting. Very enlightening! I had a Sheriff tell me just a month or so ago, that racking a shell works well in scaring off people. Also, I have always believed that a shotgun penetrated less than a .223/556 shell. Well, If you’re lucky, you live and learn. Great article.’

Racking a shell means you are in a dangerous situation with an unloaded shotgun.

I agree with “to each his own” thinking and with the addition of the Saint 5.56 pistol with a 7.5 inch barrel brings the 5.56/.223 very close to the 300 BO option.
When I was referencing the 5.56/233 and the 10.5”bbl that is the minimum and actually 11.5” is what is preferred for minimum performance from a ballistics standpoint. Have you looked at any terminal performance comparing the 7.5” to the 10.5”/11.5” or the 300blk to the 5.56/223?

Crunching the numbers has never been my strong suit.

This is stuff I have learned, studied researched and gathered over the years. Rifles and pistol cartridges are two different “platforms” for better terms. It takes different velocities for the bullets to expand or “work” on a rifle the powder has to burn and with the varying barrel length “push” the bullet out. We all know the basics of barrel length vs velocity and have even heard the term barrel whip. Bullets are designed to perform at a certain velocity. I will be the first to admit I don’t know everything and am always willing to learn more and have been blessed to have learned what I already know.
