How many rounds do you carry?

I was surprised he didn't shoot sooner. Being Maryland though, I have to think the hyper-political prosecutorial climate may have had something to do with it. I've seen a lot of these type of police shooting videos and there are plenty where the suspects weapon was lowered but he was advancing faster than the cop could move backwards and bad guy was shot.
The authors comment on pelvis vs head was also enlightening. I've seen this mentioned before but seeing this kind of cemented the fact that I need to change my training.

Note to newer shooters. Don't be shooting pelvis shots at an indoor range. Consider the background and angle of your rounds. Range owners do NOT like their floors being shot up.

14+19 9mm

The former marine/ current police captain who’s classes I’m taking pointed out the groin shot with regards to a perp wearing body armor a few months ago. It was something I hadn’t thought of before. He says they don’t advance anymore after being shot in the balls. Lol

One thing I find strange about the video is the complete lack of reaction to being shoot. Even with body armor, I would expect some kind of reaction to the rounds, bit I don't see anything.

Does anyone have the rest of the story about what happened?

From the look on his face and lack of reaction to being shot many times , I would say he was doped up on something.

Montgomery County is on the border of D.C.

'nuff said, when questioning LEO aggressiveness.

Especially when - as we can all see here - everything they do is on camera.

I have my MD wear and carry. We, once licensed, can carry either open or concealed - the state does not differentiate. I choose to carry concealed for obvious reasons. Montgomery County is the ONLY place I've been hassled after a stretch/reach causes a slight peek. A Karen caught sight, flagged down a LEO and MADE them question me immediately. 2 notes there - 1, I was setting up for a concert, with my company logo all over my equipment...and on my shirt, so it should have been fairly obvious I wasn't a 'troublemaker'. 2, the LEO was extremely sympathetic and once I produced my permit he said "just talk with me for a minute or two so it looks like we're accomplishing something for her...". At which point I politely asked him if 30 seconds would work, since I was getting behind schedule and we were supposed to start playing in 10 minutes.

Closer to home? In the county with Sheriffs run by Chuck Jenkins? Meh. "whatcha carry? Howdya like it? Cool, have a good one..."

It's not illegal to print, or flash, or peek, here in Maryland once you're licensed. But, I still try not to do it because it's just bad tactics.

And, Karens are everywhere these days. Even if normal folk outnumber them 100 to 1...they still make sure their one voice overshadows the other 100.

I hate police shootings but I can't fault the sheriff in that one. When my CCW permit comes in I'll be carrying 15+1 in the pistol and 15 more in a spare magazine.

I agree Hans. May not penetrate but it sure will break a couple ribs and knock a perp on his ass. Setting up subsequent shots.
Yeah, not so much. This is the reality of taking hits to armor.

I couldn’t find it, but there’s a video of him taking a point blank shot to a vest from a FAL-.308.

While standing on one foot.

It didn’t even knock him off balance.

In active shooter training, we were trained to target the "pelvic girdle". The hip socket is the preferred target, rather than the genital area, because it will immediately stop the shooter's advance. Even if the shooter is too high or insane to react to the pain, the structural damage should be sufficient to make walking virtually impossible. There are also enough major arteries in the pelvic area that it is quite likely that the shooter will bleed out without immediate medical attention. I believe the tactic has become widely accepted among law enforcement agencies, but I have been removed from the action for too long to know for sure.

I would still shoot him in the face! it looked like he was close enough not to miss
There are many stories of people surviving trauma to the head. A "head shot" does not guarantee stopping a threat.

This was not a bullet but massive cranial damage. The victims brain was injured in a manner that left them on "auto pilot". Such injuries are only fodder for media and juries, especially if they survive.

There is another example of someone that was able to identify the killer before they died. I will post if I can find it.
