I Expected a HEX Wasp Red Dot on my Hellcat RDP

Greetings all, newbie here!

After a very long wait, I finally was able to purchase a Hellcat RDP. ALL of the RDP info/specs that I have seen states that it includes the HEX Wasp Red Dot. However, the RDP that I received has a Shield SMSC Red Dot installed. Based upon SA's marketing, the HEX Wasp is the go-to red dot for the RDP. Right or wrong, their marketing would have the buyer believe that the Shield red dot is inferior. Should I be concerned?

Springfield Armory Hellcat RDP variations:

Sorry! I should have been more clear. I have seen both versions online as well. But, SA marketing specific to the Hellcat RDP Hellcat RDP clearly favors the HEX Wasp. I have no experience with a red dot. It may not be, but It feels a bit like a bait & switch.

Springfield Armory Hellcat RDP variations:

HEX WASP RED DOT

Thank you so much for your reply.

HEX WASP RED DOT

Included with the Hellcat RDP is the all new HEX™ Wasp™ — a micro-sized red dot optic designed to pair perfectly with the Hellcat. Optimized for direct, low-mounting the Wasp presents intuitively and co-witnesses with the Hellcat’s irons. A $299 value, the Wasp features a premium glass lens, a tough machined 6061 aluminum body and 65,000 hours of battery life. HEX is a special project by Springfield Armory, visit hexoptics.com for full specifications.

This is what I have been reading for months, and is the cause for my concern. Again, I may be overthinking it. But, this is the only info that I have had to go on.

Actually, was a surprise to me too when read your post, so looked info up. Thought Hex Wasp sight was only Optical Sight available on Hellcat RDP from all had read, seen and heard too. Guess not? Noticed all variations are same price.

When the RDP came out I agree it was shown and promoted with the Wasp red dot . And I wanted one also . Ive seen them in LGS here and there and finally got mine . Then I also started seeing them with the Shield on them. I was like what is this . I thought they ran out of Wasp in production and kept on selling them with the shield red dot to keep sales going . The I looked on SA site and saw this .

looks like they made a couple of versions to sell . Look at the product code . all different .
So no sure where you got your but if you not happy i would ask to return it for the model you wanted . That's what i would try doing . Again I wouldn't be happy either .Good luck and sorry for what happen to you .

Sorry I also wanted to say I wanted the Saint Edge PDW 5.56 . The price on this is $1,777 sugg. retail . My LGS got one in and I called down and the price was lower , I thought what a deal and then I looked at the pic posted of the gun . I saw the lower receiver was wrong it wasn't the Edge model then I also saw it was a Saint Victor on the hand guard. So I looked on SA site and nothing about them making a Victor in the PDW version . So in the end We figured out they ran out of Edge Lowers and started making them in to the Victor model to keep sales going .

I think it WAS the only optical sight offered until very recently. Nothing that I read previously indicated that I had a choice. But... based upon SA's marketing, I would have chosen the Wasp. Again, right or wrong, it was disappointing, and a bit of a let down, that the Wasp was not included.

Not sure on that bait/switch part, doubt on SA's part. I'd likely be a little disillusioned too expecting one thing and receiving another, but don't know what info/particulars you ordered on or where ordered from. May be a mistake on advertisers/sellers part? They've been known to cut corners sometimes on very similar products, may have basically posted same item in haste? Product don't always match descriptions from my experience. Look at your copies of transaction, info should be specified? Also check with your seller too, they may remedy situation?

Some info may be sales hype, but to help clarify, both sights are top quality if that's a concern?

Thank you all for your replies. SA touted Wasp so much, that yes... my concern is whether the Shield is inferior to the Wasp? Aluminum/glass (Wasp) vs. polymer. Lifetime warranty (Wasp) vs. ? Waterproof (Wasp) vs. ? Etc... I doubt that my dealer will be able to address my concerns. I'm hoping to communicate with someone from SA. Thanks again to all!

You may want to call Springfield Armory for best response.
The number have for them during their normal business hours is: 1 800 680 6866

I have the shield on mine and while I’ve only shot it once, it did just fine. Springfield is touting the wasp because it’s their in house optic that they themselves made, so of course they are going to pump that one up. They’ve been producing those shield optics since the mid 90’s I believe. Yes they maybe polymer but from what I can see on mine it’s more than sturdy. The lens might be polymer as well but it’s coated in something or other(I forget what it’s called) but it’s supposed to make it just as reliable, if not more so than the glass on the hex.

I really don’t think you can go wrong with either one.

My Hellcat OSP FDE, it came with the HEX WASP
