I hate the silly season

I LOVE the Christmas season.
Sure, there are some things that get annoying, mostly, my wife stressing out and wanting everything to be perfect
She's stressed today because she has a lot to do to be ready for Wednesday

But we love the Christmas season. My wife starts listening to Christmas music on October 25.
We do several activities at church, with the biggest being our annual play, which was just yesterday. I did the directing and most of the scenery. We also do a candlelight service the last Wednesday before Christmas - this year it is bumped up to Christmas eve.

We don't have a lot of parties to go to - I wish that would change, but we had one at church yesterday and we go to my father-in-law's on Christmas day and the whole family gets together - my wife's siter, her husband and kids are here this year - they are Missionaries to Western Africa, and this is the first time that all 5 will be here for a Christmas.

We didn't get to do the things we normally do, like drive around a look at lights and get to a store that has a huge display of decorated trees- family tradition and a tradition for most people within a reasonable distance in PA and Ohio

My wife is born on 12/13 and our oldest on Christmas day, so the season a really big deal for us

My daughter is turning 21 this Christmas, so we're going handgun shopping on the 28. She really wants the Sig Rose 280 but we're not sure she should spend that much
Like your outlook on life--- Get the Sig- a friend has it and she loves it. You only turn 21 once. Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to your daughter.

This will be a tough Christmas for my wife and her family. It was this time last year we found out my father-in-law had cancer, and that it was terminal. We all put on a brave face for him, but the Holiday mood was one of doom. He decided on home hospice and passed away in late Jan. of this year. This will be the first Christmas without him. Agent orange exposure was what his cancer was from. He was a 100% disabled Vietnam veteran, and since his death was considered service connected, at least my mother-in-law was eligible for VA spouse survivors' benefits.
a friend of mine that lives not far from @NMEDGE is also a vet and claims that agent orange is the source of his health issues.

just learned my Aunt (wife of my Uncle that died in september) passed this morning in her sleep:(. this year just keeps getting worse, but at least she's free of dementia.

Sorry for your loss. Always such a tough time of the year to lose a family member - lost my mom 7 years ago in December.

those set of cousins (ages 57, 53 & 49) are now w/o both parents and all 4 grandparents. now my mom has only her younger sister alive as their brother was the 1 who died back in sept. my mother (85) is in near great to good health for her age, but sometimes it doesn't take much to go south.
