Anyone have an idea what kind of trees these might have been?

To me, the first picture looks like a White Oak because the striations are not straight. White Oak is difficult to split. The other pictures look more like red oak family. I am a loooonnnnggg way from an expert, though. I wish I were better at tree identification, but I guess I don't want it bad enough to spend the time. :(

Two trees lived in a forest, a Birch tree and a Beech tree. One day a sapling sprung up between them and they started to argue:

Was it a Son of a Birch? Or a Son of a Beech?

The Birch exclaimed, “It’s a Son of a Birch!”

But the Beech insisted, “It’s a Son of a Beech!”

Back and forth they argued. Son of a Birch! Son of a Beech! Son of a Birch! Son of a Beech!

One day a woodpecker flew by. The trees thought, “Let’s ask an expert.”

“Mr. Woodpecker,” they pleaded, “can you tell us: Is it a Son of a Birch or a Son of a Beech?”

The woodpecker replied, “I’ll do it!” He started pecking on the sapling. “Wow! This is amazing!” he exclaimed. He pecked some more. “This is Wonderful!” he shouted. He pecked and pecked “This is terrific!” he screamed.

The trees could stand it no longer. “Tell us!” they demanded, “Is it a Son of a Birch or a Son of a Beech?”

And the woodpecker replied…

“It’s neither. It’s the best piece of Ash I’ve had my pecker in all week!”

My bad - I just couldn't help myself.

Bensst, I do have a serious suggestion:
Neighbor lady uses an app called iNaturalist on her smart phone, and from what she told me ( been a while, though) you take a pic of what u trying to ID and it gives u the possibilities. She uses it for plants & flowers on walks.
Free app - or was - but might work since u have good pics of the bark color & pattern...

The one in pics 2 and 3 look like the ones in my backyard. They grow all along the river here. Do these trees produce nuts? Sorta like hickory nuts in a green husk?
I didn't see them before getting cut up so I don't know. That's a good question.
