If you bought the gun you wanted, why are you now disappointed?

For me it would be the Beretta APX carry. It feels really good in the hand and the slide is very easy to grip & rack because of its unique design but the trigger is absolutely abysmal and there isn't really any good options that I could find to upgrade it.

The other 3 pistols in the APX line all share a similar trigger to each other which isn't bad at all but the APX carry's trigger is total crude.

Either way if I like it or not I will not sell any of my firearms so it will just sit in a safe until I find a way to upgrade it.
That’s where I differ.

If I don’t like something, it’s gone.

It's crossed my mind but I haven't separated from a firearm. Maybe this one will break that trend.

My wife is a lot less experienced than I with guns. I only owned striker fired pistols but had fired many DA's and she never had. She loves my Beretta CX4 Storm so she thought that she might just like Berettas. She tried on a 92fs and absolutely fell in love with how it felt in her hand, so I bought one. At the range (admittedly it had been awhile since she'd shot) she fell out of love when she felt the trigger pull and double action. The most regrettable part about it is that I had a strong feeling that it may happen, but I went ahead with the purchase. I don't regret it completely because it's a super sexy pistol in my opinion and one that I really love, but when you're used to striker fired it's definitely different.
I'll get her used to it and make her love it (I hope). I guess the real regret is that there are others that I would have picked up first, but live and learn and buy more guns later.
Just a thought, it doesn't cost a lot, especially compared to a new gun, to have the trigger changed with the spring to make it a bit nicer for her. I have a Beretta 92S Italian MP pistol and wasn't thrilled with it myself. Sent it off and had about $200 worth of work done including a trigger. Now its one of my favorite pistols. Shoots nice great trigger and very accurate. Only thing that doesn't thrill me is the ejector port on the top of the frame, it kicks up and back and always drops very close to me as opposed to off to the right like most. Still a very nice pistol.

I guess I have to experience a little bit of everything to truly learn some of life's lessons. Here are some of the reasons why I was disappointed in gun purchases:
  • sale price just after purchase
If I hated any of my guns that went on sale after I purchased them, I would have to hate all of my guns. I'm convinced that the best way to know what will go on sale next week is to ask me what I bought last week. I actually only post pics of my new guns on this site as a courtesy to let other members know that those specific models will be going on a deep sale very soon.

I’ve sold and traded in many guns for many reasons, some because I was just not shooting it enough to take up space. I did get rid of the 2 Savage AR10’s because they had issues I didn’t want to deal with in the long term. The one gun that was traded in which was my very first gun purchased was an S&W M&P shield chambered in 40SW that gun was just small for my hands and no matter how much I shot it it just never felt right.

The only time I regretted it was when my wife caught me sneaking my new gun into the house and beat me! I agree with Sld1959 that most regrets result from impulse buying, especially at gun shows when you pay top dollar and then do you research later. Sometimes when you buy used guns you find that you've bought someone else's problem gun and regret is an understatement. I'd rather buy older guns from estates because there are few regrets if I feel my purchase, was a bargain! But when making those buys, I always try to keep in mind that old saying, "buy the gun and not the story" because you never know who is embellishing and embroidering an items history to only enhance the price. However, I have few regrets when I can buy something today and make money on it tomorrow!

Guess I have been pretty lucky, I seldom impulse buy so everything is pretty well researched.

The only one I truly was disappointed was in a taurus revolver which had horrible cylinder bind
I research a ton, but until you pull the trigger, who knows.

I wanted a FN509.

Held a brand new one from the gun display with great ergonomics and loved it… until I pulled the trigger. Horrid trigger pull.
Then rented one 5 min later to confirm. Horrid trigger confirmed. Walked away from that purchase and disappointed. On paper was all I wanted.
Love other FN pistols, just not that model

Oh I never buy until I shoot, at least an example of the weapon if not the actual one. That is part of my research, perhaps one of the most important parts of it.

One question, what gun store allows you to shoot a new gun without a confirmation your going to buy it since that gun is or should be now considered used?? Now maybe your talking about a used gun in a private sale otherwise I’m confused.

If it's something I sm buying new I usually find one someone at the range or club has. I have been able to shoot used ones I am buying prior to buying. It's been very seldom I have not found an example to try prior to buying. Some just take longer to find than others occasionally, but it's seldom that I can't be patient enough to wait until I can.

Oh, I've had several that I bought and kinda wished I hadn't...

The Colt LW Commander that was terribly inaccurate, no matter the load; ditto with the Colt Night Cobra...the Century G3 that didn't have an ejector...both Taurus pistols, a PT92 and a Tracker...pretty much every XD I've bought, with the possible exception of the first generation .45 Tactical w/thumb safety...

That's just off the top of my head.
Hans why didn’t you like your XD’s

Guess I've been lucky. I never bought any gun I hated. Taurus revolver? Most effective deer killing, flawless revolver I own. Had it 30 years now. S&W EZ.380 ? Never an issue. Fires every time and my 81 year old arthritic father can rack a Semi auto again. I bought a Shield PC .40 before the .45 was available. Nothing at all wrong with it. Awesome deep concealment pistol. Accurate, reliable, it's great. Since I got the Shield .45 I have maybe carried it once.

My 66 Taurus has ran 1000s of rounds, taken a dozen deer, great revolver. Same with the 380 revolver, I had one with issues, a 22 but would buy another Taurus any time. Matter of fact have seriously considered the convertible. 357/9mm one recently.

IF YOU BOUGHT THE GUN YOU WANTED, WHY ARE YOU NOW DISAPPOINTED?

Simple… I still can’t hit the ocean from the water’s edge at the beach.
( same thing happened when I bought the guns I didn’t really want, too… )
