Our house is located in what was a pecan grove. Hurricane Ivan blew down about 40 of my mature trees. I still have a few mature trees, some years we get a goid crop, some years not. I got a lot of good pecan lumber from downed trees that we have used a lot as wood flooring and furniture.

my fingers are pecan brown from shelling and picking from the loose green coverings to beat the squirrels
i have used some of the older limbs we trimmed in the smoker, but they were small.

I use pecan offcuts in my smoker all the time, it gives the meat a mild nutty flavor. My squirrels are fat and happy right now with all the pecans and acorns.

i use pecan on poultry ALOT . i like the buttery smooth flavor it imparts.
