Inflation is hitting ammo

Hi,

I'm a new shooter with 9mm and .22LR pistols who's been buying ammo since September of 2020. What started at $15 a box is now $25 a box on a good day. The prices fluctuate a little. For the most part I trade at my local big box stores because they generally have the best prices, Big 5, Turner's Outdoorsman, Bass Pro Shop (Cabella's). I have bought from a couple of smaller shops but they really tend to gouge. My most recent purchase at Bass Pro, $80 for a 200 round WWB, was a bit better than the same box I bought at Big 5 a couple weeks before, for $100.

The availability seems to be getting better but the prices have not really started to fall. I'm trying to be patient and buy just what I need to train. I'm hoping once there's a lot of inventory on the shelves the prices will come down. An old noob can dream, right? ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Price increase in April? I noticed Federal raised the 45 ACP Gold Medal loads 12.5% ($63.99 - $71.99) about 6 weeks ago.
Not that they have had any in stock.

If you are looking for 9mm or 45, Norma Shooting (Dot) Com has 9mm for $16.99 /50 and 45 ACP 200 gr HP "match" for $27.99 / 50. The 45 230 grain FMJ is $34.99. 5.56 and 308 also have sale prices.
I believe the sale is good until Jan 2nd.

If you sign up for the newsletter, you can save an additional 10% on the sale price on your first order.
Free shipping on $150+ orders.

Just keep in mind they have been closed between Christmas and New Year's so it may take a week or so for your order to ship when they return. My earlier orders from them have normally shipped within two days of placing the order.

Ammo pricing doesn't always make sense. 10mm auto starts at $.70/round on ammoseek, yet I can buy 50 round boxes for $26.99 at one local shop, while most other local shops are asking $35.99/box (Magtech or S&B FMJ). A month ago 9mm brass from Norma was $315/case delivered, now at prices mentioned above by shanneba (target FMJ 115 or 124grain). Gotta watch everywhere every day for deals as they come and go...

Prices haven't changed at my local Farm and Home. I just picked up a bunch of slugs for just under a buck a piece. 115 gr. 9mm is going for $18/box.

Academy Sports had almost nothing and what they have is definitely expensive though.

Hi,

I'm sure living where I do, in Taxifornia, doesn't help my bottom line. With the extra state regulations and fees it costs more to get product on the shelf here.

I've never tried to order online. But after shipping, taxes, FFL, DROS, etc, I'm not sure it would be a bargain. That's OK. I won't be here too much longer. ;)

I've got a few thousand rounds on hand. That should last until I get to someplace friendlier. :D

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
