Is My Knife Dangerously Cheap?

My go to brand is Buck, not bank breaking prices and greet quality.
I am not risking losing a $200 or more knife

Intrestinlgy, right now, one of the best knives going is a cheapy at WalMart for $10

Gtingt rave reviews, hard to find. My brother-in-law managed to find one, me and another bro-in-law told him to gab us each one if he sees more.

Ozark Trail EDC Folding Knife

https://gearjunkie.com/knives/walmart-ozark-trail-folding-knife-review

Forget what you think you know about price and quality. Walmart's Ozark Trail folding knife is everything you want at an unbeatable price.

Dubbed “The Ozark Grail,” the internet stands divided on whether this 7.5-inch pocket knife is actually dependable. Purists note it is strikingly similar in form and function to Benchmade’s Bugout, which starts at $180 and is one of the highest-grossing pocket knives on the market today.

But the Bugout isn’t without its own faults (it’s a medium-duty knife at best), and this $10 Ozark Trail knife addresses that by adding steel liners that beef up the core and eliminate handle flex.

In short: I beat the snot out of this knife, and though it looks like it, it still functions just as well as the day that I took it out of its clamshell packaging in the parking lot at my local Walmart. This $10 Ozark Trail folding knife from Walmart may not have a backstory to brag about. In its place is an underdog knife with the form, function, and materials I expect in knives 10 times its price.

Never touched one to comment further than saying, as mentioned in the article, it owes a lot to the Benchmade Bugout from the looks of the overall knife, including the AXIS lock.

Hope you get one.

I carry cheap (relatively) knives for work; currently a Kershaw assisted for that reason.

Don’t know what I’d do if I lost one of my Reeves…
I came damn close to buying a Reeves a couple weeks ago. There are two on my radar. One is a fixed blade that was, all things considered, relatively inexpensive and the other was called Ummagumma or something like that. It was 5 bills and I would have bought it if not for the lead time.

For work or HARD use I carry $20 beaters. Usually from S&W. If I lose them I don't get upset. Never broke one and I am hard as hell on them. They sharpen quickly on a stone.

I have to say when I first started buying expensive knives I definitely babied them all. At this point I have a goodly amount of them and some of the shine has worn off a few of them. My Bugout sees moderate use as does the Barrage. And the UTX-85 I carry a lot. In fact I was almost convinced to send that one to Microtech for cleaning and sharpening until I looked into what that entails. Then I started looking for the little tool I bought awhile back to take it apart and couldn't find it. I suspect it's in the shop in a bin full of knife boxes. I decided to just spray a crapload of rem oil in there and blow it out, let it drip dry overnight and then blow it out again and that got it firing hard again. And I'm no longer afraid to touch it up or sharpen it either.

The Umnumzaan is a really nice knife; I prefer my Sebenzas, though…a little more basic, but just built like a tank.

Was the fixed the Nyala? I’ve got one, and it’s super handy…

I was looking at the Pacific and the Backpacker.
I’ve got a Pacific. Love it.

Get one, you will not regret it.

I can't afford high end knives. My "collection" has a lot of variations of the Buck 110 in it.

My actual most carried knives are the SAK Climber and the Multi Tool on top. The SAK lives in my gym bag and the Multi Tool is on my belt any time I leave the house in street clothes.

Everything else is ranked top to bottom by how often I actually carry it.

Buck 110 LTE. Buck 110 Slim Select.

Benchmade McHenry Williams 710. Griptilian.

Bucklite 422 (Ranger) Buck 110.

Benchmade Bugout. SAK Sentry.

The 710 was a gift. there's no way I could afford that knife.

That's is a great collection of hard working knives. Any one ofthem os worth of carrying everyday, very nice.

To me, a knife is just a tool. My knives work hard for a living. While I can appreciate a nice knife, I won't spend the big money on one. I think the most I've ever paid for a knife in my life was maybe $50.
I know that some guys are into knives and have a lot of very nice, expensive ones. But that just ain't me.
