Is The Glaser Safety Slug Good for Self Defense

Many, many, MANY years ago I carried them in a Colt .25. Never had to use them and never tested them in gel, but they hit accurately. as accurate as a .25 can be which is to say moderately accurate at about 10'. :)

I have never tried them, I rather have regular ammo I guess, like Han’s, I rather carry fmj then them, but thought it was interesting enough to post here.

I wouldn't carry them in a normal gun, but given the already dismally unimpressive performance of .25 caliber and the max effective range of a few feet, as long as they cycle in the gun I'd take them over hard ball for sure in a .25 automatic.

I tried them back when I lived in an apartment.

Out of a USP45, at 20 feet (give or take) they shot about 4-5” high, out of the six rounds I tried out for accuracy (Which iirc was a pretty ragged group, as well). I had bought two of the 6rd blister packs, and when I saw the accuracy was not acceptable, I tried penetration tests...they’d pretty much stop in a gallon jug of water, and—contrary to popular belief—they blew threw 4 layers of Sheetrock without fragmenting...and still detonated a water jug.

So much for them being “safer” for overpenetration concerns...

Ended up loading Winchester Silvertip, instead.

I have some, bought them back in the 80's. Kept them in my .357 for house duty only. I didn't want a .357 round going through walls and possibly hit a wife or kid in the heat of confrontation.
I'd in no way ever carry them in public for defense.

Except it would, in fact, go through walls, plural...despite the popular myth/manufacturer propaganda.

Rule 4 always applies.
