is your car smarter than you..??

I drive an '01 Pontiac Firebird. When I turn the key it starts, when I put it in D it goes forward, when I put it in reverse it goes backwards. It only does what I tell it to and thats fine with me. On the other hand, my trophy wife has a '18 Ford Escape Titanium that does everything but cook dinner. It has a problem understanding plain english as well. You push the button, tell it navigation and then say go to "X" and it answers with 'did you say go to some other location I never said nor heard of before. One time out of pure frustration when it spouted some unrecognizable location I said yes and it replied that it could not find the location. "Then why the hell are you asking me if I want to go there?" In my Firebird I attach a GPS to my windshield it understands my every direction. I decided to show my trophy wife the auto parallel park feature one day. When I finished and looked over expecting to see a look of surprise and awe I saw pure terror. She said don't ever do that again, it scares me. Last time I went somewhere that I had an option to pull in or parallel park, I asked her if I should parallel park? You know that sideways glance that says don't push it? Well, she does that real good so I just pulled in...

It could be worse!

When I went to pick up my wife (soon to be at the time) at college there was just enough room to park a crew cab dually with a 24' trailer loaded with hay. No backup cameras like nowadays. 1 shot between 2 vehicles without hitting curb or vehicles. I still have class A license, but don't drive a combination truck/trailer anymore. Tandam as far to the back as I can get them I preferred.

people ought to try parallel parking an 18 wheeler.

i trained for it, i passed my driving test, never had to do it...except for 1 time, in all my years.

i surprised myself that i could do it.

Man you can say that again. The school I went to didn't teach parallel parking. The first job I got , I drove with a trainer who lived in Indy , IND. We stopped at his place for the night and when we got ready to leave he put me behind the wheel. So we take off and as we crossed the line into Ohio , he says to me " I need to take a leek . Pull into the truck stop coming up. So I hit the ramp and as I get where I can see , It is nose to tail semis. 😲 I looked at him and said you knew it was like this. He replied , yep and you need to learn how to do it.

Well I thought , This is going to take a while. LOL I put that sucker right in there first try without having to jocky around any. I set the air , he looked at me and asked if all the tires were in the line. I told him they were . he checked and said well come on lets get in here and back on the road.

I had a short term behind the wheel and never had to try doing that again . I am very thankful for that.

I started driving at 17 and my father taught me right away how to back up vehicles with trailers attached, at 18 I bought a Oday Super swift sail boat and trailered it to a lake every weekend during the summer. It was a great girl magnet 😎 I drove a L9000 Tri Axle delivery truck for a year. I’ve pulled everything from UHaul trailers to travel trailers with no issues.
Parallel parking has never been an issue for me.
