We had a nasty storm blow through the Memphis area last Sunday evening. I live right next door in the City of Bartlett. It only lasted about 30 minutes, but winds got up to 80-90 mph. Lots of trees down and power out to 122,000 homes. Add temps in the 90s and it hasn't been fun. My power was out for 2 days. My cable and internet just came back this morning.
Much of it has been repaired, as of this morning only about 25,000 still without power. But still lots of damage and trees still to clean up.
As for myself, no major damage. Some small limbs, lots of sticks and leaves and other debris. Took all of one day to clean it up.
I fired up my generator. That got me the fridge, freezer, a fan, light, microwave and a small over-the-air TV.
For me it was more of a nuisance than anything else. Others weren't so lucky. Still quite a bit of damage to clean up and many lost a lot of food which will be expensive to replace.
Oh well, this old boy scout was prepared and got through it. ;)

glad to hear you survived rather unscath.

i have seen the news channels, and so many others........well weren't so lucky

here in the past, we have had power outages due to blizzards, or hurricanes.

a former buddy of mine, filed a claim on his home owners insurance for food replacement.

he got a check a few days later for the food.

can't say how much he got, might have been a "token amount" of like $300 or so.

Yea, really glad your ok, we had our share of bad storms last year, funnel cloud went over our apartment complex but never touched down, wild weather anymore, take care

I live due east of you about 4 counties...we got some wind although nothing to compare with what y'all had to put up with. Tennessee is getting its fair share of rough weather this year. We were all on pins and needles when that f3 came through a while back. It was about 4 miles north of us. I lost 2 dear friends to it. Glad yall are ok Fox.

Glad everyone is ok. We had some big winds and tornados this year in mid central Missouri as well. Scary stuff.

we had the 4 days of no power all around us, during this last storm event. we are a coop and our feed lines from swepco got torn down.
it made me get off my duff and order the generlink system and a new generator, i had procrastinated for 2 years
our elect coop approves of these and its thousands cheaper than the generac stuff, plus if you move and you can take it with you
it only lets you feed 40 amps of 220 volts in the house power, but it does drop line pwr so no body gets zapped and
under our roof , it allws me to run all the fridges and freezers, plus ac or heat . plus power left over
bought a 12,500 watt surge and 9500 continuous generator and it meets the generlink requirements
this year was last straw so we got it.
and the Westinghouse genny was built in vietnam ...not china
my grand kid lives 19 miles away and they were no power for four days and stayed with us
generlink will tell you if your pwr company approves it. most do.

That's a pretty nice set up.

That's a pretty nice set up.
i priced generac, transfer switch, 200 gallon propane tank and an electrician it was near 7500, plus 6 weeks lead time.
it would have been nice to run the whole house, but once we really looked at our power needs in a standby situation, 40 amps is plenty with a reserve and we get surge protection as well with 10 year surge warranty in the generlink system.

this set me back just under 2500
generlink is 1300-1200(1259) and lowes had a heck of sale on the westinghouse, plus vet discount it was only 1216,
30 bucks for power company to install the gen link under the meter
only issue is genny is HEAVY and glad its on wheels.
i still need to run a propane line from my 100 gallon tank to front of house so i can run on LP or gas.

we have an 8k watt genny in the bus, but it requires me to open roof exhaust in garage and side window for air
exhaust from engine is ported through wall outside, it will run almost everything, but then garage is HOT and or cold depending on weather. sort of makes man cave uncomfy
and if we need people to stay over , we put up cots in the bus garage because of the room

My propane tanks are right by my electric meter. I am definitely going to look into this. Thanks

on generlink website they have a pdf that lists approved generators
big thing it really does not need to be bigger than 10k watts continuous as the transfer switch is limited to 40 amp load
most genny with 4 pole rv plug will work. then you decide on run time, maintenance and country of origin or NOISE
the Westinghouse was my 1st time with that brand. it was packaged great, assembled in less 15 minutes, came with bottle of oil,
started right up after about 3 turns
its dual fuel, which for me is great. i dont have to store so much gasoline
