Jerry Reed passed away in 2008 in Nashville of complications from emphysema. In two interviews before his death with "The Tennessean" and Top40-Charts .com, Jerry told of his spiritual rebirth after having open-heart surgery.
"I nearly died on the operating table five years ago,” Reed told the reporter. “I left God, but He never left me. We live this life like what's down here is what it's all about. We're temporary, son, like a wisp of smoke."

Thanks-very true. I almost check out on the table 2/18/22 when a cardiac catheter opened a vessel in my heart. I was fully awake at the time. BP dropped like a hammer and things started going black. I asked the Good Lord to forgive my and to take care of my beloved wife..and I was gone. Woke 2 hours later in recovery with my wife beside me so sore I could barely breath. Doc told me the following morning myBP had dropped to 30 over 0. L lost a liter and a half of blood through the drain they stuck in my chest. I’m very blessed to be here
