I actually LIKE modern country music.
I especially like Carrie Underwood. She sings about two things: Jesus, and Kickin' Ass. Can't think of one where she sings of both in the same song, but it wouldn't surprise me.
I find that that the two greatest influences in modern country music are Jimmy Buffett and Tom Petty. About half of what's on modern country stations could BE either Jimmy Buffett or Tom Petty songs. Some of the songs even mention Jimmy Buffet or Tom Petty by name. And I'm pretty sure at least a couple of the songs have Jimmy Buffett singing on them.
Here's a good example. This is a song called "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" by a guy named Will Hoge:
Then someone from the Eli Young Band heard it and said, "Hey, that sounds like a Tom Petty song. Let's get some Rickenbacker guitars and cover that and REALLY make it sound like a Tom Petty song." And they made one of the coolest videos ever to boot.
