Slavery was/is an abomination. It has existed about as long as there have been people (and still exists in places today.). If any reparations were due, they were due in the late 1800’s to people who had actually Experienced that horrible condition, and certainly NOT to people 4 or 5 generations Removed from it. My great great grandfather was a Confederate soldier, He did NOT own slaves, nor did any of his family (according to census records). He DID have his home burned and his farm pillaged by Union troops, and his 21 yr old wife died while he was in a Union prison camp-maybe I need “reparations” for the losses he suffered? I have several very good friends who’ve migrated to America FROM Africa (Nigeria and the Congo). The stories THEY tell about life there Today are unreal. (How about having to walk three miles from your home to a stream just for water-and Then the fellow who owns the land charges you to walk across it?). Those folks who’ve came to the USA love it here-they’ve became naturalized citizens. One of them asked my, after the Floyd incident when all the rioting was going on, “what’s wrong with those people? A criminal resisted arrest and got killed and they’re rioting? Back home they’d have shot him for resisting arrest and nobody would have thought anything about it.” Kinda sums it up.
