Late Night Rescue

So following an appointment this morning called a PAT
(pre admission testing)
To get things squared away for my shoulder surgery on the 19th I received a phone call about a Hawk that had flown through a screen into a screened in porch. I arrived to find the Raptor sitting quietly in a corner unable to find its way out threw a door that had been left open.

After an examination I found the bird to be of good weight without a pronounced breast bone which would indicates malnutrition.

This rescue ended very well, after release in the home owners backyard the bird took one hop and flew away very strongly.
I love this work. ❤️

Yes guys that’s me I figured getting to old to worry about putting my ugly mug out there. 🫣😵‍💫😂😂😂
That's effin' awesome buddy. What a selfless and rewarding thing to do. You da man.

Thank you guys, honestly I’m getting a little stressed about the surgery next week and going out today and being able to be up and close to such a beautiful bird and watch it fly away put me in a better frame of mind.
You'll pull through.

I recently went through some surgery stuff and also was nervous but it all panned out.

Todays medical tech & surgical skills are pretty amazing.

Absolutely agree. I had an EKG today, the last one I had was probably 30 years ago and the machine took up half the little room I was in, today it was just a computer and leads.
I’m sure everything will be ok it’s the waiting that’s eating at me.

So this will be my Sunday morning rant and I promise to keep it as short as possible.
On Thursday evening I went out on the report of a grounded Hawk with a damaged wing, upon arrival I found an adult Red Tail Hawk on the ground with no visual issues with its wings however this bird allowed me to approach it and net it without any indication to move or fly away. It was of good weight.

The Hawk was delivered to Raptor Rehab of Kentucky in less then 20 minutes. In less then two hours the bird passed away, following a necropsy
(bird autopsy) including blood work it was discovered the bird died of severe pesticide poisoning. Although DDT has been banned people are still using pesticides on there lawns, shrubbery and trees to control insects and this is causing catastrophe results with birds of prey that eat ground animals that get the pesticide into them. This particular bird was Raptor #249 brought into the Rehabilitation center this year and #136 to die due of pesticide poisoning.
Please, please, please spread the word to STOP using pesticides on lawns and foliage around homes. Thank you 😢

A green lawn is just not worth killing these beautiful majestic birds.

Yea, too many use that weed killer and crap, never believed in it myself, we did it the old fashioned way, pulled the weeds…..my mom never believed in the weed killer stuff, always was worried about some animal getting into it. Even today I don’t use commercial bug spray, still use the same home made stuff I grew up with, works for me
