Lets buy some tanks !!

Only if they have an EV.
i dunno, Joisey is going to hit EV owners with something like a $250 tax bill, since they ain't buying gasoline for the taxes

Buyers of new EV’s get hit hardest, paying four years of registration fees up front when a new vehicle is purchased, meaning buyers could pony up at last $1,060.

We had M60 & M60A1 models. Can only imagine what upgrades the A3 series had.
Here is a good summary of the upgrades for the M60A3:

The photo in the original article shows the tank without the gun tube's thermal sleeve which prevents uneven heating of the gun tube due to firing and weather conditions. These are Spanish Marines tanks and perhaps they were removed to prevent moisture getting in in typical maritime environments but that's just a guess. The tank also got an additional belt of armor around the turret ring with the M60A1 RISE Passive in the late 70s based upon lessons learned in the Yom Kippur War.

yup. also raised out gas tax again. it won't make a difference to the infrastructure. that money will find its way to the general fund (slush fund) and be used for pet projects just like everything else.

Went to Germany in 1965 was in 1/68 Armor, 8 Inf Div. At that time most if not all of our tanks were M-60's. Can't remember the dates but we started getting some A1's. I was really into tank gunnery but the A3 series would have been unbelievable with the fire control upgrades. In Vietnam we had M-48A3's with M-60 fire controls. Here again I can't remember why we didn't have M-60's. I heard that the M-60 was too heavy and lacked anti-personnel ammunition. Don't know if these were the real reasons for not having them in Vietnam. I do remember the M-73 co-axial machine gun was terrible. Thanks for the info.

The 105 had APERS, that is beehive timed round; devastating to personnel. I don't know when it became available though. We had them from the time I went active in 1976. We also had HEP, would would do just fine against infantry. You're right about the M73s. We had an upgrade to the M219 and it was slightly better. The Army really didn't resolve the coax problem until late 70s. We were the first unit ti get the FN MAG 58 later type classified as the M240. Best MG ever.

In Germany we didn't have the beehive round. We did have HEP, but I don't remember firing any. In Vietnam we had canister, beehive (not timed), heat, he, wp & very little apds for our 90mm guns. Depending on the area we were in we usually carried canister rounds in the gun. Not having a reliable co-ax almost got me in a real jam. Enjoyed chatting with you Cedric.
