I really don't see much of a difference. With my old astigmatism eyes - it may be that I don't have that ability. Both serve their purpose for me. Edit - actually, I like the QD release better on the Vortex - but visually - about the same for me.

When looking through them does the dot look like a dot or more like a small squiggly line ? I ask because I have a PA magnifier that looks more like a squiggly line and I’m trying to decide if it’s a crappy magnifier or my crappy eyesight. I don’t want to buy a better one and have the same issue.

Running the green Holosun 510 - I get slight distortion of the dot (with or without my prescription glasses) - but nothing like a squiggly line. Dot is still distinct enoiugh to put on target. The outer MOA ring is clear and distinct, though. With these short of barrels, and the fact that I rarely shoot at distence to really need the magnifiers - they may be added weight I don't really need. Make more sense on a longer barrel for longer distances.

16" Heavy barrel, Vortex dot & 3x flip over magnifier. Streamlight Protac and 20 rounds of bone crunching 7.62x39 154gr JSP's. 11 pounds not counting the sling. Holy Begeeezus. Point and shoot to about 125 yards. (more than I usually need) It's a work out to tote too far, But it's proven deadly on a few occasions.

Got approval on one of my SBR's today, on more to go. i was excited. lol

If I didn’t live in Cook county Illinois and I was going to buy/build an AR (or two) I’d probably do something like this FDE Aero Precision with a stainless 16” mid length barrel and VG6 Epsilon muzzle brake, 13” Atlas R handguard, 45° Radian ambi safety selector, Rise Rave drop in trigger, JP silent captured spring and an EOTech XPS2 with a REALLY BAD Vortex 3x magnifier that just makes things fuzzy after the end of the barrel.

OR a cheap starter AR like what started as a CORE-15 Scout but now has a 16” HD 5.56 carbine length barrel, VG6 Gamma muzzle brake, 45° Radian ambi safety selector, Rise Rave trigger, EOTech XPS2, Streamlight ProTac with a Cloud Defensive switch holder, 13” STNGR HWK handguard and a JP silent captured buffer spring.

At least this is what mine would look like if I was allowed to have them in my corrupt state and crooked criminal county because they’d be fantastic for home defense or casually outshooting my friends who think they’re operators.
