Lever rifle for SD

Why does everything have to be a "self defense" weapon now? Lever guns are great for short-range hunting and I have a .45/70 brush gun for places where there be big bear, why can't we just leave it at that? There are weapons suited for self defense and a lever gun is not once of them. The fewer things you have to think about in a self-defense situation the better, and I don't see how operating a lever gun is a smart move that way. Then consider reloading a box magazine vs a round-by-round reload into a tubular magazine. I think this guy was low on article ideas before his deadline and pulled something silly out of his hind end.
Keep in mind—the lever action was the “assault”rifle of its time—rapid fire in a time of muzzleloaders, very popular with the cavalry in the civil war.

Sure, technology has moved on, but that doesn’t mean a lever gun is therefore unworthy of consideration for a defensive weapon.

I know a few people, very pro-gun individuals, who cannot STAND MSR’s; think they’re an abomination; they don’t think they should be banned—but would never own one themselves.

Not everyone wants the latest & greatest.

Sure, but I'd rather use a 1911 in my home if it came down to using old tech. I'm sure the venerable 30-30 was fantastic as an "assault" in 1898, but I also doubt CQB was much of a thing. Honestly I'd rather use my Garand over a lever gun. Longer and harder to whip around but easier to reload.

You don’t think there were in-building, close range gunfights a little over a century ago?

Just because they didn’t call it “CQB” doesn’t mean it wasn’t happening…

I think I'd prefer "topping off" a gate-loader a round or two at a time as needed rather than trying to keep count of M1 shots fired, and then wrangling the enbloc into place.

Then again, I'd prefer the 15-round box mag of my M1 carbine to either, which is why that's what I have for my home defense long gun.

I always thought Lucas McCain did well with his lever action when it came to self-defense!

Garand 43.5 inches 9. Lbs
Marlin 1894 44 mag. 36 inches 6lbs

I will take the 1894 over the garand in your Cqb scenario any day.

Have you seen the modern " Purpose built" lever action SD guns ? Some of us have enough 1894s we could saw some of the wood off 'em, cut the barrel down and make our own. ;)

And this was also the assault weapon of it's time but it doesn't make it relevant by today's standards!

The crossbow is way too outdated for me that's why I only carry my tactical assault hot dog for self defense.....🤪

Yeah, but I still want both of those.

The trebuchet is a little dated, but you'll see my dumb azz out back putting one together in the near future. :)

I agree and I blame the industry really. I genuinely wonder if we've reached the peak with current technology. There are no new ideas out there.

For example, an interesting gun that is out there is the lever action shotgun... That dates back to John Moses Browning inventing it (sort of unwillingly) for Winchester
