Local gun stores

I went to 3 gun stores today. My goal was to come home with a Holosun 507K X2 GR. None had one in stock. So i ordered one from Holosun on Amazon. It will be here tomorrow. I try to shop local, even if it costs a little more, but I ain't waiting for them to get what I want in stock.

I buy all my holsters from Missouri companies.

I have several in my area. One is real close, like 5 minutes. Probably the oldest one in town, I remember driving by it as a kid. I have only been in there a few times. Very small, dark. Has some cool old, unusual stuff. But some prices were crazy high. I was in there the other day, he wanted almost $300 for a Hi Point C9, that's $200 or less al day anywhere. That's just an easy example. But he's a gunsmith and he has a great reputation. Was having issues with my GSG 1911-22 and everyone said to take it to him

There's one a little over 20 minutes across town, decent guys, but they want full blown MSRP for everything.

There's 1 about 2o minutes south of town, and another about 10 minutes past that. The close one is ok. Prices seemed reasonable, only been in there once.

The one a little further is my favorite. Pretty decent handgun and ammo selection. Awesome long gun selection. And they are all on racks for you to pick up and check out. Prices are pretty much what I feel they should be. A little higher than most websites, but it's a brick and mortar store, I expect that. I try to buy at least something every time I go in, at least a box of ammo.

Honestly, i frequent Sportsmans Warehouse the most. Probably like 2 to 3 times a month. The people there are cool and prices aren't terrible. Geographically it's best for me because it's in the center of everting else retail so I always get in when the wife wants/needs to be out shopping.

Uh oh. What kind of AR ?
I looked at a .308 at his shop..Ruger SFAR. I haven't made any final decisions yet. When I mentioned it in another thread, @Talyn suggested it as it is built smaller - good for my short arms. But yeah, I have been looking at the SA Saint series a little too. Any advice in what to look for will always be welcome. I trust my FLL guy, but when I invest in one, I want to have done all the right research and make the right decision for me. ☺️

I am rather impulsive when it comes to handguns, and I don't want to start down that road with ARs. My wallet won't survive!

The SFAR is noticeably lighter if that's a factor, since typically AR-10-types are heavy.

That, plus a 20 rd. mag of .308, and an optic then things add up.

I just picked up the 20" version of the SFAR a few weeks ago (the 16" has a waiting list at my LGS). I went with the 20" since I already own the 16" SA M1a SOCOM w/Archangel stock, so I figured I'd avoid the long list wait time and get the 20" that came in quickly. Talyn's correct, it's much lighter than AR10s currently offered on the market. Comparing the SFAR to my Ruger SR762 AR10 (which sadly is discontinued, a shame because it's a great platform), the weight difference is like night and day.

Even here in my part of California there are 8 legitimate Gun Stores. They do great gunsmithing and the like, a couple of them do brisk business. The problem is that big box stores like Turner’s, Bass Pro, and Sportsman’s Warehouse beat them on price.
Does California still have Gun shows❓

I have brought and traded many firearms at gun shows❗

Saint .308
Light. The SFAR and It are almost damn near identical in weight.
I’ve abused my Saint .308 more than anyone on the planet.
Its a Timex. Keeps on ticking. its been launched off a top of a sidexside 20+ feet at speed chasing hogs and shot them 2 min later after chamber and barrel clear check.
Its a beast. With a typical scope, its light

Edit: prob 2000+ rounds thru it and I stopped counting at hogs after a few hundred .
