Looking for advice on my first LPVO scope for 500 yard range shots...

Good morning, never owned a LPVO rifle scope before. I own red dots, EO Tech with 3x mag, and one of my rifles has a 4x ACOG... but I'm looking for a rifle scope that can be adjusted between close range and maybe up to 500-yard steel plates, getting into a little long range competition shooting.

I was looking and liking the Primary Arms PLx compact 1-8 NOVA 5.56 BDC but I don't really know anything about them. I mean I know scope basics, focal point, front and back glass, sure my terms are wrong. But thats about it. I know each level of zoom is for about 100 yards. And I'm also learning that either my keyboard is failing me, or I can't type worth a **** in the morning. lol

I'm also looking at:

Trijicon and Vortex... any advice or recommendations???

Thx.

I believe they only go up to 6x but the clarity and return to zero on Leupold can't be beat.

They also have a free (CDS) custom dial program. You can give them information about your platform and they will ship you a custom turret.

For anything over 6x I think a larger objective lens is nice to let in a little more light so I would go with a standard scope design.

There's a big difference between "ringing steel" and shooting groups at extended ranges.

The first is "entertainment" and the second is serious shooting beyond 200 yds, especially with a .223/5.56.

But hiiting a "small" steel target vs. a barn-door becomes challenging at exteneded ranges.

More other variables come into play past 200 yds., as well as the ammo you're using.

LVPOs past 6X typiically move to a 34mm tube vs. 30mm in the 6X and 4X power ranges, so LVPOS get bigger and heavier.

If you're just shooting at a range then the extra weigh and bulk are manageable.

My .02

I'd look into a 8x or 10x with a 34mm tube if you want a LVPO optic

LVPO optics are generally made to work with closer targets under 300m .... Not ideal for longer targets

I use them on a couple Ruger American Ranch bolt guns in 300 blackout and 7.62x39 for 100m-200m shooting

Most of my longer range guns have rifle scopes because they just work better at longer distance
