Lucas Oil Extreme Duty Bore Solvent Review

Advice on Hoppes No. 9...

A gunsmith once told me to never leave a nickel-plated gun soaking in Hoppes No. 9, because it was acidic and would strip nickel plating when given enough time.

At my next gun cleaning session, I put a small drop of Hoppes No. 9 on a penny. After about 10-seconds a bright spot appeared on the penny.

I still use Hoppes No. 9, but I never leave it in the bore. I follow with a dry patch and follow that with an oily patch and another dry patch.

I'm a big fan of JB Bore Cleaner. After cleaning with any other bore cleaner, JB Bore Cleaner would still remove fouling that was left behind.

i run a wet patch thru the bore

and only leave my gun bore "soaking" in Hoppes for a few minutes, while i clean everything else first.

then yes, after several dry patches to clean, an oily patch gets in there as well, for storing till next time.

and no...i do not run a dry patch through the barrel come time to shoot the gun again.
