The M2 is a very old school design and there is a thread on the forum that discusses its failures however I don’t remember which thread, that being said does your M1A have a wood stock that has a sling swivel?
With My M1A standard I was able to remove the front sling attachment and installed one that had the sling attachment and a pic rail for a bipod that would attach to the rail.
