Honestly don't know. Possibly, depends on complete story? Apparently worked well in video as far as typical viewers could see? But, for how long with possible explosion hazard? Ignition sources like running vehicle engines, smoking, gunfire, ect. could make success short lived and limited too? Seconds, minutes after video was recorded, things may have changed to upside down? Fuel's hazardous for more than one reason. Possible explosions are only one. This guy refused to become a victim by having situational awareness and using environmental tools to his advantage to overcome multiple attackers.
I can see your point though personally I would most likely use the pump as it's the first tool at my disposal and it's quite the psychology weapon being doused in fuel.Honestly don't know. Regardless, would soon be headed towards shower, laundry, car wash, soaking up fuel sprayed area with plenty of absorbant and hosing down area with water....and traveling with escort.
Yeah being burned would suck and I'm sure the perps may have even thought or feared that shooting a firearm may cause ignition.Possibly, yes, even if I had a firearm...it was at hand and ready, and ended the fight without using lethal force.
People may not be afraid of being shot...but deep down, everyone is afraid of burning.
Additionally, they breathe those gas fumes...for all intents and purposes huffing it, their gonna be high and slow, both mentally and physically.
I really don’t see a downside.
Diesel fuel's not quite the same as conventional petroleum fuel, but is still quite deadly. Even the fumes.I can see your point though personally I would most likely use the pump as it's the first tool at my disposal and it's quite the psychology weapon being doused in fuel.
The defender was using diesel fuel which doesn't ignite too easily but what do the robbers know...
It also makes a great waterproofing if you can deal with the fumes...Diesel fuel's not quite the same as conventional petroleum fuel, but is still quite deadly. Even the fumes.
Woke up at a truck stop one time after an overnight fuel leak/spill from a nearby rig. Open windows are a mixed blessing? Could barely walk, but needed to get out of area. Fumes effected me worse than conventional fuel. If not lethal, darned close to it? Sure as heck couldn't safely drive, so didn't. Took hours to be able to do either.
Yah, don't doubt it. Isn't as refined. Has more oil. Lemonade from lemons in some ways? But, that odor? Likely not sneaking up on anyone or anything too soon afterwards? It also makes a great waterproofing if you can deal with the fumes...
I accidentally spilled a bunch of diesel on my boots once filling a machine and I could submerge my boots completely under water and pull them out and see the water just bead up and roll off for months after.
Disclaimer:
I don't actually recommend using fuel as a waterproofing.
I typically use mink oil on brand new boots and I haven't made a habit of going to the pump with my new chippewas....Yah, don't doubt it. Isn't as refined. Has more oil. Lemonade from lemons in some ways? But, that odor? Likely not sneaking up on anyone or anything too soon afterwards?
Oiling is generally recommended for waterproofing. Neatsfoot or mineral oil works for me on leather and sometimes wood. Diesel? Not so much?
Yah, mink oil's good too! .....except for the mink?I typically use mink oil on brand new boots and I haven't made a habit of going to the pump with my new chippewas....
I lit my pant leg on fire once years ago using a cut off saw on some rebar from the shower of sparks I was making. I felt some irritation on my shin and when I looked down I noticed a big hole in my pant leg and all the hair missing off of my shin....Absolutely I would do it. Probably even if I had a gun.
For the record I have been on fire 3 times in my life and I am not afraid of burning. I'd rather burn alive than drown. That said, I don't think I'd continue charging someone who was spraying gas at me.
With that much sprayed fuel, I'd have others help push the critter out of the area.Quick thinking by the intended victim! Wonder how he got his vehicle away from the puddle of fuel though?
If it was diesel he could just drive it over to the car wash and call it a day.Quick thinking by the intended victim! Wonder how he got his vehicle away from the puddle of fuel though?
I am not sure that Chevy comes with a Diesel engine. I know that green handle usually means Diesel in US, but is not the same everywhere. The defender was using diesel fuel
Appears not to be in the U.S. The license plates look more European/non-US issue.I am not sure that Chevy comes with a Diesel engine. I know that green handle usually means Diesel in US, but is not the same everywhere.

While it’s widely known that most gas stations use green nozzle handles to represent diesel fuel, it’s important to note that it's not industry standard.blog.goodsam.com
The Chevy Cruze comes in a diesel version and I'm pretty sure diesel cars are pretty popular in other parts of the world.I am not sure that Chevy comes with a Diesel engine. I know that green handle usually means Diesel in US, but is not the same everywhere.
