May look at a suppressor now

Yep, got my first suppressor 5 years ago, it was done with paper and took 18 months. My 2nd suppressor was done electronically but still took 8 months about 2 years ago.

Just did my 3rd suppressor electronically, and it took 3 weeks.

A friend of mine who works in the industry claims the ATF knowns it's tax stamps for suppressors days are numbered, so they have orders to kick out those tax stamps fast, to collect the $200. (What he said, I'm not sure why or if true.)

I was just informed (last week) by an LGS rep that suppressor approvals are taking anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 days...at least the ones he's been involved with. Something certainly changed. By the time I decide to take the plunge, I'm sure they will be back to 9 months....

The thing that changed is that the ATF is being sued across the country for how long the approval process takes, stating it's a denial of citizens rights. If they batch approve even a couple of thousand suppressors in a short turnaround, they can correct that absurd average wait time significantly. That's my 2 cents.

My understanding is that they used to do first in first out. It didn’t actually happen that way, but that was the objective. So you could get an immediate “proceed” from the FBI NICS check, but still not get an immediate approval on the NFA item. What they’re doing now is if someone’s NICS check comes back clean immediately, they’re approving those right away. If anything is on someone’s record, it requires someone to physically look at it and make a determination. Those come back slower. So, sounds like if you do a BGC for a firearm, and it comes back immediately with an approval, you’re likely to get a real quick turnaround. If you are delayed on your BGC, it will probably still take a while.
