Moment of Truth from my SA-35

Bought mine in March, 5xxx serial. FTEs after approx 300 rds, using a mix of Winchester white box 147gr, Blazer Brass 115gr, and American Eagle 115gr - all FMJ hardball. FTE every 3-5 rds, with both factory 15rd mags and 13 rd Meg-gar mags. Sent it back, returned with new extractor and extractor spring. 1st trip after repair, 100 rds of same mix, no issues. 2nd trip, at about 250 rds, same issue. FTE every few rounds. Another RMA, sent back, waiting for the response. This is my 2nd Springfield, my RO Elite 10mm has been flawless for at least 1000 rounds. Was hoping to introduce the SA35 into the EDC rotation, but not now! Suggested that they replace the unit, we'll see what they do.
Not entirely sure how easy replacing a pistol is for a manufacturer, with all the registration legalities for each state and federal requirement. It might easier said than done, and a very last resort due to the paperwork involved.

A Range Officer in any caliber really ruins you because it is so flawless and it’s got serious good mojo. Every gun should have that something, something that the RO has.

For a manufacturer to replace a defective firearm it's only a matter of the manufacturer transferring the firearm to a local FFL where they will do the standard background check so you can take it home.

There would be more to it than that. The old firearm would have to be transferred in ownership by the current owner to the manufacturer. Meaning if the firearm is currently at the manufacturer a transfer back and forth of requsite paperwork. Of course they would have to follow federal rules and that of each individual state.

Then it might go as you describe.

I've actually had a defective firearm replaced by Ruger and I didn't have to transfer anything. This was 4 years ago in the anti 2A stronghold of Massachusetts. There was no transfer of ownership to Ruger as I was informed by them that they would destroy the firearm and take care of any federal paperwork regarding the serial number.

Ruger just asked for my preferred LGS to ship the new firearm to and it was delivered within a week.

Have you been through the process before?

Just like when you put a firearm on consignment the LGS gives you a receipt of record and they take care of the sale with any transfer paperwork from the seller.

Perhaps I am wrong, never been thru it myself but had a dealer tell me what it entailed. Evidently he was wrong.

Years ago I had a S&W 686 revolver, it was really messed up and I couldn’t even shoot it, it was sent back to S&W by my dealer, S&W didn’t want to fix it cause they wanted to show it to the higher ups on why did this gun EVER left the factory like this, they kept the gun, sent me a brand new one with the same serial number that the one I sent in had, and S&W destroyed the old one, now this process took about 6 weeks due to they had to destroy the one I sent back before they could replace it with one with the same serial number, so it’s possible to get a replacement

That’s not correct, once a firearm is returned; the manufacturer has the ability to take control of that firearm if deemed unsafe or has other issues and of course the manufacturer has the ability to send a new firearm to a FFL to be delivered to the customer. The paperwork is on the manufacturer to take control of the serialized gun that is being replaced and to show that it was destroyed after investigation on what was wrong.

Went to LGS the other day and he wanted $39.99 per box for 50rds of 9mm. I was in shock. At these prices who can afford to go shooting? I think some people are taking advantage of the whole situation.

I purchased some Remington range ammo this week for $20 per box. I felt a little bad about paying that. Other brands are available around here for as little as $16 per box.

keep looking. the LGS you go to may be much smaller than the others, so they may not be able to buy in more bulk quantities, to offer a lower price.

the prices are now generally (in my area) under $18.00 per box of 50. (and this is up here in New England)

even "some" online places now, are under at the very least $20 per box of 50
