More junk, or improved quality in U.S. plant?

I've only ever owned one Taurus. I think they called it the PT92.

My wife actually bought it at gun store by herself. Had I been there I would have done everything I could to keep her from buying that gun but I wasn't. I seem to remember her paying less than $100 for it.

NGL for what it was it wasn't a bad gun. It never malfunctioned and I don't recall it being inaccurate.

But it was a brick and I hated that loooooooong DA trigger pull. I used to tell people if you wanted to shoot somebody on Wednesday with that gun you'd better start pulling the trigger Tuesday night.

I also had a problem finding magazines for it. Apparently the Beretta magazines or all the Beretta magazines I could find did not fit it.

The only thing I liked about that gun was as I mentioned my wife paid less than $100 for it and we sold it for $300 to a pawn shop, which we used to fund this.

A friend of mine at church offered to sell it to me for $200. He said he wanted to make sure he gave me a "fair deal".

That gun gave me a sour impression of Taurus handguns. I remember telling my wife as we were leaving the pawn shop that she paid too much for that gun the first time she bought it and that we would not be redeeming it from the pawn shop.

I've mentioned this before but when I was on my church's security team one of the members carried I don't remember what he called it maybe it was a Millennium Pro or a G2 Maybe?

But I remember going to training classes with him and watching him spend the entire day dealing with malfunctions on that gun.

Those two examples were enough to turn me off of the idea of ever buying another

Mec-Gar magazines are IMO the best handgun magazines available on the planet.

I had one in 40 S&W. You’re right. That DA trigger pull was TERRIBLE!
I never owned or fired one of their revolvers. I might have to try one🤔

I have an old one. Never had an issue. I can tell you that with their magnum revolvers the cylinder rod tends to unscrew itself occasionally. And the cylinders don’t roll as smooth and fast as a Smith or Colt.
 
I have a Taurus GX4 in my carry rotation. It has over 5k rounds thru it without a single issue of any kind. I have even used it in IDPA Matches.

I deer and hogs hunt with a Raging Hunter 6.75 454 Casull and it is laser accurate with my loads.

Taurus is much improved over what they were in the 90s. Now they only fall short in the eyes of the gun snobs. That's my opinion.

I didn’t have a problem with their revolvers from the 90s. Mine is a 8.38” .44 magnum from the late 80s.

My problem with them is their semi autos. Specifically the GXs, at least up to the 4. I haven’t handled that one myself other than holding my buddy’s for a few seconds. I’ve had two of that same buddy’s previous model GXs out back in my shop with issues. Mostly spring and magazine related feed issues.

Does the GX4 have a plastic RSA ? He hasn’t had any problems with this one and I’ve heard they’re much better than the 3s.
 
My experience with students with Taurus and SCCY has not been good. You may get one that works, or maybe not. As I have said here before, I saw more malfunctions on my range with Taurus than all the other makes combined. I got to a point that I would not allow them in my classes. I have heard Taurus has improved quality, but with SIG, HK, S&W, SA, Glock, Colt, and a few others to choose from, I am not wasting my time or money with guns of sketchy quality.

Yes indeed. Most of these are questionable but the snobbery is definitely out there. Just my opinion.

Yep. My standard is simple. Would I rely on this gun to defend my family and myself from a lethal threat? If that is snobbery, I am guilty as charged.
 
They had about a 5 to 6 year period in the 90s where they had some serious issues. But otherwise thier revolvers have been serviceable to occasionally excellant.

I have had three Taurus revolvers the first was early 80s 66 357 magnum. Still have and use this one it has taken many deer. Smooth as any Smith i ever shot. In fact the trigger on it is the finest revolver trigger i have ever shot, including custom work I have had done.

Second was a early 90s .22 and it had a tie up issue and I sold it after a trip to the factory still having it.


Third is the .380 snub which I still use and carry. I love the Lil critter.

The two bookends I would trust with my families life any day, period.
