Mossberg 590… .410

I want one.

I bought my first M500 in the mid--'70s, and then two more before I was able to score a deal on what I REALLY wanted all along--an early Rem 870 Police. I still have all four.

I once passed on a 20-ga M500 solely because it didn't have dual action bars, a MUST in my book. Was glad to see that this .410 M590 DOES have them. ;)

I honestly can’t say how many rounds I’ve run through single-bar M500’s (and I can guarantee @Bassbob has my number beat by an order of magnitude)…I’ve never had a single issue.

Never cared for 870’s; fact is, with the exception of an old Wingmaster that I chopped down & tacc’ed out, I’ve never had a truly reliable 870.

I don't doubt your single-bar M500 experience. That 20-ga was the only one I've ever seen. My three M500s all have dual bars. I guess I read decades ago that dual bars are a MUST for smooth and reliable operation and have had a prejudice to that way of thinking ever since.

OTOH, I've never had a bad experience with an 870. USAF 870 was the first shotgun I ever shot, and I got trained on stripping and maintaining and repairing them, and was responsible for the upkeep and performance of about two dozen of them at one point in my life. I've sold them in a retail shop and I've shot skeet with them from time to time and can't recall a single malf of any kind at any time. I finally stepped up and bought one--a 1952 Police model, IIRC--about 20 years ago and am delighted with it.

My 500 has dual bars. Never heard of any failures or other issues with the older single bar models though.

Like you I don't care for 870s. And I always thought they were a pain to break down.

My SIL has one. I have tricked it out a little bit. He's an idiot though, well, I shouldn't say that. Let's just say he clearly based his " Upgrades" on what he thought looked cool. Frankly a laser on a shotgun is the dumbest thing I ever saw. And don't get me started on pistol grips.

I had my 500 out a month or so ago, but more often than not it's the Beretta or the IWI.

I’ve got 3 12ga 500’s, and a .410 “Shockwave”.

One of the 12’s is a Cruiser 8-shot; one has a 24” rifle sighted slug barrel, and the third is a Westernfield (Montgomery Wards) with a 18” barrel. I’ve also got 24” and 28” bird barrels for the 5-shot models.

The Cruiser is kept out of the safe in a fast access/concealed location, loaded with low-recoil #4 buck. It’s got an XS tritium big dot front sight, but pretty vanilla beyond that.

Did your Cruiser start out with a pistol grip ? 21" barrel ?

Nice. I like the wood.

Mine came to me new with a pistol grip. Looked menacing. Nowhere near as fast or accurate as it is now all Magpul'ed out.
Come to think of it…

I think I’ve got SGA furniture for a 500; picked it up used at a gun show in the before times, pretty cheap…just never put it on.

Hmm. Now to find it.

At first I thought it looked kinda funny. Let me tell you though, ergonomics are fantastic. They got it right for sure. And personally I think it looks pretty dang good.

I have a Mesa Urbino on my 1301 which is great, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't thought about swapping it out for an SGA.
