My Echelon Modifications

TestMule

Elite
In March I purchased a Springfield Armory Echelon. I've never owned a striker fired 9mm pistol in my life.

After doing some research, and before I fired it for the first time I did some simple modifications.

1. Changed out the grip panel to the small one provided with the weapon.

2. Changed out the 17 round magazine baseplate for the 20 round extension.

My next modification was made to deal with a personal defect of mine...old eyes. I at at the point that open sights just don't work for me anymore so I purchased and installed a Holosun HE507K-GR X2 green dot optic. I really really like the reticle on this Holosun. It reminds me a little bit of the Primary Arms ACSS reticle used in their optics.

That first trip to the range was a revelation. The firearm performed so smoothly and was very accurate right out of the box. It took 3 rounds at 7 yards, 3 rounds at 10 yards and 4 rounds at 15 yards to zero the optic and get the point of impact where I wanted it. Plus I got some understanding of the ballistics at each distance. Pretty soon I was dinging steel at 20, 25 & 30 yards with consistent accuracy. If I missed the steel it was my fault and could not be blamed on the weapon.

So after a couple more range sessions I knew I wanted to reduce the muzzle rise so this past weekend I installed a Springer Precision compensator and a Springfield Armory extended length threaded barrel. I have read and found so many contradictory statements out there on the interwebs about what pound recoil spring spec I should be using. For now I will go with the stock rod & spring. I'll get back to the range in a few days and see how things go.

If I get some FTE or slide short stroking performance I'll go a bit lighter on the spring and change out the guide rod with some other Springer Precision parts.

I am sure there is more that I can add but that will only come if I feel I need to make an improvement. I'm not gonna throw parts at this firearm like I have with my Jeep. :ROFLMAO:

congrats on picking up a great pistols and the great modifications so far.
Springer Precision makes great stuff, I'll probably add their magwell and base plates to my Echelon soon.
