we blew off the bridge of a turkish FFG when i was on saratoga, oops, when she was about 3k yards away, it was gruesome. and we were playing war games....how did a live sea sparrow launch???

those cruisers are awesome in detection , classification and prosecution of threats
my guess is the folks in combat were in very high octane alert for hours on end, combined with the stress of missiles and drones already being shot at navy ships and of course numbers of people or lack of trained people to man the screens and the fire control officer?? he or she gives final go or no go. and usually the cruisers are the aircraft control point, not the carrier. they have tactical control of the airspace ..lots to manage with 12 or less people on a watch station
the red sea is hornets nests, so many things in the air 24 7, your body gets tired real quick of constant ON GUARD and modified schedules to man the battle stations etc.
i will add, the navy does not take human factors into account in all fields, like it does in flying and nuke folks
so the systems crews could be running on 2 hrs of sleep or be on watch 8 hrs straight, then a few off to eat and then righ back to the seat...brain fog sets in FAST, especially when everything around you is blue, green or red lights
but the aircraft IFF should have told the cruiser he was a friend, but maybe a non friend was very close and the missile chose the lesser of two evils as it was. there will be "tape" so the investigators will be able to put the puzzle together.
missiles do not use the iff transponder info...why? cost , updates, etc
