I’m a pack rat, I just don’t like to throw things away or give them to God knows who would want them. I always think I can use them for something, and tried to use one to lock up something outside once. I found out quickly, they don’t stand up too well to outside weather.
Yes they do rust very quickly and they can be picked open also very easily as well. I used to save them, they were all thrown out awhile back.

In terms of collecting, an older firearm that still has the original box, paperwork, and now the lock will bring more money than just buying the gun by itself. It used to be that nobody saved all of that stuff, but those that did can make an extra $100 or more depending on the age and condition of a factory box that was serial numbered to the gun by the factory.

Yeah, I tend to keep all that came with the firearm for that reason. But at this point in time, I have no plans to sell any of my firearms that I have. The rifle boxes are what take up most of the space though.

Agreed but in reality not everyone has the space to store all that if you have multiple guns let alone if you end up moving it becomes something else to pack and relocate. I started buying my guns in Texas and before moving to Kentucky I had to take only what I had space for. Let’s just say a lot of things went into the dumpster while packing the UHaul trailer.

Agreed Keystone,
Many locks and safes are usually a false sense of security and only work possibly as deterrents to slow things down by themselves. Using more methods with them may help in certain situations like simply in sight, out of sight, and other defenses like lighting, cameras and other means. Scenarios can be different and likely should be for good security.

Some of the very cheap flimsy gun locks can also damage firearms (Some trigger locks can if misapplied.) or not provide much security if any, those should be destroyed to prevent further abuse and use and then discarded. Cable locks tend to be more secure for short term use than average trigger locks, but some of those can fall into the same category. Good quality materials and construction matters in all of them.
