New Gun Owners and the Election

My guess is when this is over only a small percentage of new gun owners will have a real understanding of what 2A means for true freedom and sadly the market will probably be flooded with used like new guns from everyone dumping them and going back to business as usual. Hey at least there will probably be some great deals to be had.

"Laws for thee, but not for me".

They'll keep voting Democrat, thinking "I've got MY gun...(insert Cartman voice here)...so screw you guys..." I only give a small minority enough credit to do the mental math about how hard it was for them to get their guns...the hoops they have to jump through...and how that affects the rest of society.

The vast majority are simply brainwashed beyond hope.

I am in agreement unfortunately. N Tx has seen tens of thousand of transplants from blue states and they keep voting blue. The amount of democrat signs around town is quite large. “Lets keep voting for the crap we left behind” mentality

Those that have bought firearms for protection in the last few months, that then vote blue, seem to be like lemmings running for the cliff.

Thanks Anni. I hope the writer is correct and all the new owners pay more attention to what the politicians are saying. One thing I think we can factor into the equation is fear. With the media coverage of the riots, defund the police demands, and now rioters shooting police as well as destroying property while promising to go to the suburbs, folks are buying guns to protect themselves. I hope most of the newbies will have enough sense to realize how defenseless they would be if they could not rely on being able to protect themselves and their loved ones and vote against those who would put them in that position (while at the same time being surrounded by armed guards, by the way).

Note to new firearm owners: When seconds count, LE is usually minutes away (no fault there), making personal safety for ourselves and our loved ones our responsibility until they arrive. Keep this in mind when you vote!

That's very accurate. We have a ton of people moving from California out here to where I live......then they turn around and want to make Arkansas like California as far as how our local government works.....after griping about how much they hate California...lol

I don't think there will be much of a change in the way the new gun owners vote. There are already many gun owning Democrats which is the reason I have for believing it won't change minds much one way or another.

That's what I meant in my post above - it's the Locust Effect.

Destroy your environment. Use all the resources there. Strip all the food, kill all the cover, etc.

Then...move to a new area. And...destroy it, just like before.

The definition of insanity is....

I agree with most here, that a small percentage may now be more 2A concerned, which will influence their vote. I think a lot of these new gun owners bought a gun for either protection (seeing the violence in the streets in some places), and some that are thinking certain firearms will be banned and not available after the election. I hope I'm wrong, but that's currently how I see it.

I can’t help but wonder what is more important to the overall general public, this forum is about guns, every once in awhile a chicken and goose becomes front and center but we all know who’s to blame for that. @Annihilator guns and the 2A go hand in hand.
But based on the number of citizens and those with guns I can’t help but think the pandemic is more on peoples minds then gun ownership and gun laws. I won’t go into the politics but let’s just take a look at what political party is experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak right now.

Some food for thought on that topic:

From that article:

So why are luminaries like the president, members of the Senate, White House correspondents, and NFL stars coming down with COVID-19?

Because the measures the so-called experts keep blathering about, wearing face masks and social distancing, are next to useless. COVID-19 is simply working its way through the population, regardless of catchy slogans like "New York Tough" and "A small ask, wear a mask!"

And some more interesting ideas about party-affiliated COVID outbreaks:

The sudden illness of so many prominent Republicans brought to mind a mostly forgotten incident in January 2018. A chartered train carrying Republican lawmakers and their families to a retreat collided with a garbage truck that inexplicably was stranded on the track. The front car derailed, killing one person. The media displayed no interest in the story and offered no follow-up articles explaining the unlikely scenario.

Seven months before the train crash, a gunman opened fire on members of the Republican congressional baseball team, severely wounding Steve Scalise, who was then serving as House majority whip. NBC reported: "Witnesses told investigators that when the gunman arrived at the ballfield, he asked people, 'Are these the Republicans or the Democrats?'"

In the almost four years since Trump has become president, Republicans have suffered three potentially mass fatality events. The coming months may finally bring some answers about these incidents. It's time for the American people to understand what's happening to them.

That said...I think gun owners, in this election, will vote the way they always voted. Us loyalists, we know which way we'll go. New gun owners, who bought one because of the panic, will have some burn still from the pain in the a$$ process ("what, you mean I can't just walk out with it??"), but I suspect their overall position will be "huh. I got mine, so I'm good...what do I care what happens next, or what happens to the other guy?" I think if we do see any conversions due to gun rights, it will be a negligible amount.

I hope I'm wrong...but my experience with the Human Condition for the last 48 years doesn't instill me with much confidence.

I think we may see a decent number of conversions (independents and moderates) due to OTHER issues at stake...but I don't see 2A being a big conversion point. Again - I hope I'm wrong...

Gun violence and the 2A fight have been in the news for years and unfortunately I believe people are almost numb to it, what’s new is a new killer that’s taken over 210,000 Americans in less then nine months and again “unfortunately” we have the leader of the current administration that makes lite of it and REFUSES to follow the guidelines set by experts in how to stop the spread of it and it bite him in the A$$ that news alone is making many people stop and think about change.
