Here's an experiment. Take an AR, load two 30 round Pmags with Wolf or some other commie steel ammo, mag dump the first mag, load the second mag, shoot ten rounds then set the gun down for 10 minutes and pick it up and see if it runs the other 20 rounds.

If your gun does that with no issues then I'd say you might be ok, though you will be replacing bolt parts sooner than me.

Now I have never done this with any of mine ( I don't shoot steel case), but I've watched cases get stuck in at least 3 other people's ARs ( high dollar ARs at that) when they let a round sit in the chamber long enough for it to cool down just a bit. 2 of those guys guns "Loved steel" and one of those guys was convinced if your gun wouldn't run steel it was a piece of crap. He doesn't think that now I can tell you that.
I've shot tons of steel through multiple ARs and never had a hint of an issue. There's tons of myths out there regarding steel ammo.

So much THIS. Steel is for **** guns you don't care about, and AK's lol. I wouldn't run it in anything I love, or anything i'm relying on to protect my family, property, or myself for an extended period of time.

I'm sure there is. I'm not talking about any of them though. I'm talking about steel casings getting stuck in the chambers of several AR's, including a BCM and a Giessele ( and a BCA) after the shooter lollygagging with a round chambered just long enough for the temperature to change and expand the steel enough that the case wouldn't come out. That's not a myth. What else isn't a myth is that it's hard on small parts, particularly the extractor. Even if the tolerance in the chamber of your rifle isn't so small that it will run steel, in all temperatures, with no issues, it's still hard on the extractor. Maybe not a big deal to most people. I mean I have about 4 or 5 nice BCGs sitting in a safe that have never even been in a gun yet, but....

Another big myth is that you save a bunch of money by shooting steel cased ammo. It's not that much cheaper.

I never run steel in AR platform. Not worth the hassle.
Steel used to be my go-to ammo for classes. I’ve run thousands of rounds of it.

The money saved in the long run is worth it (at least, it’s at the time). Just swap your extractor every couple thousand rounds, and do a barrel swap when accuracy is notably degraded (10k with an unlined barrel; 15+ with chrome) if you’re using steel-jacketed bullets.

At one point, it was a lot cheaper (haven’t priced it lately), even adding in barrel swaps every 10k rounds or so; usually to the tune of 1-2 cases more ammo.

If you are a high-volume shooter, it does pay for itself, or at least it did.

These days, I have enough brass, and I don’t do multi-day, multi-case rifle classes…I’m maybe burning 500 rounds of 5.56 a year. I just replace it as I go.

I shoot a lot more than that. A lot more.

I've never bought any steel cased ammo. Not gonna start now.
I don’t run steel anymore.

I think I’ve got a case or maybe two left from when I did, but…that’s rainy day stuff, it trading fodder. I did get rid of a case during the Great Freak Out of 20-21…

I bought a couple cases of M193 that my dealer was just putting on his auction when he closed out. On top of what I already have, should do me for a while.

Wolf steel is currently $10.50 for a box of 20. I can get Lake City for that.
