The CMP showed up at the Arizona Game & Fish Expo at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility last weekend, and they soft-launched CMP-made Garands, likely as a replacement for the dwindling number of USGI surplus Garands.

I hate to see any old gun melted down. I dont know who ordered it but they need a butt kickin
In the early 90’s (93/94 ish) Clinton signed a law that stopped the practice of Federal LE agencies selling their old guns. I believe the Customs Service 3 and 4” S&W 686 CS1 revolvers were the last ones to hit the public.

I know in my agency I watched as they cut some older model 10’s and pre model 10’s and Colt revolvers, M14’s and M1 Carbines (they had not been issued in years the M14’s were pulled in 1997)

And what hurt me most my issues and my McMillin Sniper rifle. They said it had to many rounds but still shot one hole groups. Don’t get me wrong I lived my new Chandler they bought but there was nothing wrong with the McMillin.

Well the original Springfield faactory is out of business as well as International Harvester. I think H & R are still around but I doublt they'd be interested in building new M1s. In the early 50s Winchester's machinery went to Beretta who built them mostly for European Nato countries. You'd think there would be enough interest in producing M1s again since they only take an 8 rd clip that is loaded from the top, and there's no flash protector or other muzzle device. Also a look alike bayonet lug could be milled. I mean new M1s should be a no brainer for the anti-gun crowd! But if you made them the old fashioned way they would be expensive!

I wish I had the money to buy the equipment and dons to run it because I feel there would be a market for newly manufactured M1 Garands , 1903 Springfield’s and British SMLE, K98 and some semi auto versions of the Sten and Grease guns etc and the like!

The M1 is fun to shoot and, if you pay attention to your instructor and do a lot of manual of arms training you won’t be getting M1 Thumb👍

I was thinking it was Obama that gave the order to melt down the M1 Garand and M1 carbines coming back on shore.
My gunsmith was getting shipping containers of them that Sarco was purchasing. He'd go through them match up as many as he could and ship them back to Sarco. They paid him well and he got 75 of his pick. He had two full shipping containers when he was told they had been cut off. He tried hard to talk me into taking out escrow in my house to buy a few hundred. At the time he was selling them for $125 a piece. I built myself a nice little inland M2 carbine and I wished I would have bought several of his M1 garands. I could have came out handsomely if I had taken out that loan but unfortunately hindsight's 20/20. Now all I see at the gun shows are beat to snot crap they ask $1500 for.

Wait until they announce they are selling mil surplus M14’s. When I was there for the Advanced Armorers course, I found out they had their semi auto only conversion approved by the ATF, and the Govt subcommittees, they just needed it signed into law, for release to public.

I never knew that. That’s a shame.
