New rifle on the way - I just ordered an M1A from SA.

Thank you... it's also a good idea to use the chamber brush to polish the chamber a good bit before you fire it.
 
Leupold VX5HD 7-35 x 56mm T-ZL3 vs Steiner T6Xi 5-30 x 56mm SCR . Any opinions?

I can actually get the Steiner for less $$$.
 
Too much scope unless you're just gong to shoot off a static position for how that model is set up.

If you want a ton of scope get a bolt gun or an AR10-type.
 
I think 3.5-10x40mm is probably the largest scope one should consider on an M14... the only scope I have for any of my M14s is a 1.5-5x33mm
 
I ended up using a scope that I already owned. Leupold Mk3 6-18X56. I had already bought the SA scope mount. I will try to get out for some range time when it, hopefully, warms up a little bit.

I am currently leaning toward a Vortex Razor model, but can't decide on which one. FFP or SFP is a place of indecision at this point. I think I will shoot it for a month and wait until my next retirement check comes in to get the scope and rings, probably a bipod as well. Range report pending.
