New S&W 40 Metal

I received an email from S&W today on this announcement. For those that like the 40 caliber and want a metal frame, here's an option. I have several 40 caliber guns, 3 of which are S&W but all polymer frames (PC M&P Shield, M&P compact 2.0 and M&P full size 1.0)

Got the same email, if funds wasn’t low right now, this would be second on my list……

I like the 40 but it's fading. lot of folks don't like it. i'm suprised they came out with a metal version.
I don’t mind the .40 and I own one, although I can’t remember the last time I shot it. And I would sell it if an opportunity presented itself.

I am quite surprised S&W put a metal one out. I’m not surprised @BET7 bought one though. Whatever it is if he don’t have one now he will soon. 😂😂

I don’t have a 40 with a metal frame & don’t think I’ll get one. Maybe a 10mm or 45 in metal, but 40 isn’t one of my favorite calibers

Same frame as the 9mm version, with a .40 top end…which is already ot there for other models.

.40 has S&W’s name attached to it…they’ll push it longer than anyone else.

Well they do have a never ending contract with California Highway Patrol and I’m not so sure they will ever get away from 40 cal.

The original M&P was designed around a 40 which is a better way to make them (HK UsP and SIG 229 that started the milled slide for all 22x series) even the new Glock Gen 5 40 cals have a thicker heavier slide (you’d thought 30 years ago when the cracked frames caused Cali to go with S&W 4006/4026 would have taught them to up it)

Personally I feel the 40 is better in a metal frame it should have a good following and steady sales.

should have a heavier spring than going heavier on the slide.............lower reciprocating mass would be ideal! also if they'd get away from 170+ grain bullets, recoil is less, even with same muzzle energy! 1's who reload understand this as can also be lowered with different powders achieving the same velocity. factory ammo isn't what it's cracked up too be! it's only an alternative.

The lighter = less recoil isn’t always the case.

A department I worked for went to issue guns in 1993 with a 40 cal Beretta 96 their duty load was 155 Silvertips (they had several shootings and they performed) however the recoil to some seemed more than 180 grain offerings.

And muzzle enegwrgu only matters if you are knocking bowling pins or steel has to fall. Self Defense 1 is shot placement 2 is penetration and 3 expansion

People still balk when you mention a 38 special or 32 long with wadcutters but hit that 3x5 area of the aorta and lights out.

slide weights on pistils/semi's are only marginal compared to rifles, but still matters. getting the best combo can be entertaining thou. i only used energy as something to be equal for comparisons.

For those who wonder why S&W would introduce a metal M&P40, the primary reason would be for competitors who shoot "Major" USPSA.
. The .40 S&W is still king for shooting "Major" in competitions.
If you look at current numbers a Limted gun in 40 has been out of favor for a long time. So that sales market is Mitch when you would be running basically a production gun against double stack 1911 type.

The hot markets in USPSA now are Carry Optics and Limted Optics both minor one is production with optics and other is Single action with optics and magwell (like the Sig 226 X series Beretta or CZ and the like)

Limited Iotics is a year test starting last month but I can’t see it not staying. Carry Optics has surpassed both Limted and I believe open

This is a general membership breakdown as you will have some shooters on the national level that will shoot in multiple nationals as CO and or open etc
