NORINCO MAKAROV 59 9x18

I AM THINKING OF SELLING ONE OF MY HANDGUNS. IT IS A LIKE NEW NORINCO MMODEL 59 MAKAROV IN LIKE NEW CONDITION. I HAVE THE BOX AND ALL THAT GOES WITH, INCLUDING A PADDLE INSIDE THE WAIST HOLSTER. IN TRYING TO FIGURE OOUT A PRICE FOR THE GUN, I AM SEEING PRICES ALL OVER THE MAP.
I FIRED IT ONLY ONCE WHEN PURCHASED IN THE EARLY 1990s. THERE ARE NO LONGER ANY GUN RANGES CLOSE BY MY HOME, AND THE ONE THAT JUST OPENED COSTS $30/HOUR, PLUS YOUR AMMO, TARGETS AND EAR PROTECTION RENTAL. CHINESE GUNS CAN NO LONGER BE IMPORTED, AND SEVERAL OF MY SEARCHES INDICATES THAT THESE CHINESE MAKAROVs ARE KIND OF RARE.

ONE THING I CAN TELL YOU FOR SURE IS THAT THESE ARE VERY ACCURATE, WELL-MADE GUNS BASED ON THE RUSSION MAKAROV WHICK RUSSIA GAVE TO CHINA TO PRODUCE WHEN THE TWO COUNTRIED GOT ALONG BETTER.

Because of the cartridge it's more of a novelty pistol.

I will give a different opinion, but like his its just an opinion. I believe it is a very capable self defence pistol. It sits roughly between the .380 9x17 at 9x18 and the 9 ×19 9mm luger I carried one for almost 20 years and still do occasionally. Buffalo bore makes an excellant self defence round, several in fact both Hp and solid and there are various range fodder rounds available S&B makes a good one.

The pistol itself is extremely accurate, very comfortable to shoot, and uber reliable. At only 27 parts in the design and the ability to be stripped using one tool make it easy to work on and keep running long term. The only part that requires special tools to replace is the barrel.

Yes, 9mm luger ammunition is cheaper and more plentiful, but that does not stop the Mak from bring very capable.

The Chinese Norinco usually goes at the high end of Makariv prices as it is the rarer version.

I still carry an East German Msk in my GHB.

I have 1 made in Russia that i bought along time ago. Came in a box with manual etc.I was shooting it yesterday and carry it often, very well made. I like the safety and the decocker and adjustable rear sight. It's kinda funny the first time i took it apart to clean it when i put it back together the safety fell out.Took it back apart and figured out i had fireing pin in wrong.I always remember hands on the clock,9:30 for the firing pin notch so safety slides into fireing pin. Every once in a while i unload it, clear the chamber and shake the pistol up and down to hear the click click of the firing pin moving back and forth to make sure it not gummed up or stuck. It has no return spring.If someone here is looking for a nice carry, target gun FRAIL has a nice 1 for sure.

Thank you for the reply. It is a very accurate handgun. When I purchased it in about 1991, a friend was an ffl dealer. as such, he used to get several copies of gun magazines every month. He gave me one with an article about the Makarov. I bought one, and 4 of us went to an outdoor range. We all shot the Makarov. It is very accurate and dependable. one of the four had purchased a COLT .45 GOLD CUP. He had already sent it back twice to Colt due to jamming. That day, it jammed every second or third round. He paid about a $1000.00 for the gun. The guys were teasing him that the Makarov was a better gun. He was pretty upset with us and with his colt.

9x18 is more 380+p than 9x19 and can be hard to find out in the wild. While heavy by today's standards, the Makarov is a great gun. The slide mounted safety works like it should, down to fire, I never got slide bite with one, or had an FTF/FTE. While the PPK is just flat out cool, I'd take a MAK every day of the week and twice on Sunday over a PPK.

They are very accurate handguns for sure. I've had mine since the late 80s or early 90s. Same situation. A friend who was an FFL. He also got my mom and her friend a pair of them.

If I do find a buyer for it, I have about 6 or 7 boxes of ammo (maybe more). The ammo is a bit hard to find becuase it is a 9.26 mm bullet, if I correctly recall. When I purchased the it, I bought quite a bit of ammo, but hardly used any of it. Only went to the range with it that onetime.
