Nuclear Convoy Guards New Pistol

as i recall in my trucking days, there was a "ghost fleet" from a trucking company, TSMT, that hauled such freight for the government. it was (and still might be) a division of that trucking company. no one knows who the drivers are, only a couple of dispatchers.

supposedly, not even the company owner(s) know the drivers, all for security reasons.

i do not know if that division is still hauling such freight.

National Geographic did a story on them, years ago.

I've seen trucks come and go from the disassembly plant in Amarillo, Texas and have known a few that worked there (-40 years). Possibly don't work there anymore? With railway and trucking in and out without special markings. Times might have changed?
I was a Missile Combat Crew Commander i Kansas fro 1970-74. The Titan II was too big to hide and required a special trailer to haul it. The Reentry Vehicle (the H-Bomb) was transported to McConnell AFB by plane then by convoy with guards front and back and in the air. I later worked at the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant.

I did a computer system implementation at the Pantex Plant in Amarillo. The security was by a "Private" company but they had M16s and a bunch of interesting modified Chevy Suburbans. Viewed from afar they looked stock but when you got up close you could see they were heavily armored. The roof had a retractable turret that contained a cannon.

All of this exposure to nuclear materials did not affect me one bit with one exception.... As long as I hold a cup of coffee, it never gets cold!

With it not being an AFB anymore and for a long time being an international airport I wonder what they use those old ammo bunkers for across hwy60?
